Switching Camshafts

I'm thinking about switching from HKS 272/272 to either JUN 272/272 or GSC S2s, when i upgrade to GT35R turbo.

Will i HEAR or FEEL a difference in IDLE or how and What will i feel different?

so let me get this straight you want to change them to have a more aggressive cam lope?

change your cams to benefit performance who the hell cares how they sound as long as they are right for your set up

You will see a big difference in lope and power. The JUN cams have a very aggressive ramp rate which is why there was so much more power made with them over HKS. GSC S2 are also a very nice cam. I have not been able to find specs as far as ramp rates but i do know they are a very aggressive cam. Im either going with GSC, Buschur, or a custom grind.

i suggest doing quite a bit more research b4 giving away $1k of ur own money for a different "Hear or Feel". there are more variables to cam selection than just buying cams. are u gonna do cam gears, valve springs, valve guides, headstuds, retainers, timing belt, better flowing throttle body, intake manifold, better flowing head, built block, & aftermarket ECU to really take advantage of more aggressive cams?? if not, then ur wasting your time & possibly ours.

IMO Jun, Piper, & Tomei make the most power on any big turbo car not requiring a custom grind assuming the above parts are included. some will debate that but it is my opinion only...

The JUN's make between 15 - 20 whp more than the HKS 272's at high boost with Stock maf and stock ecu. The JUNS' power is more from 3000 to 8000 rpms, with peak wtq being about 30lbft more at 3800 rpms. At 5250 rpms, the JUNS' show about 20whp more, but only showing about 13 more whp than the HKS's for a "PEAK" number. Difference is, the JUN's power output above 5000 is nearly flat to 7500 (Probably also to 8000). No question that the JUN's will make more power and street driveability is nearly the same. On our application, the JUN's made not only more peak torque, but also made it about 100 rpms sooner. Ramp rates and Mivec have a huge effect on power output.
This is using 20G-LT turbo. Don't think the stocker would see quite the same results, but maybe.

There will definitely be noticeable changes, how big of a change is up to the tune however. My preference would be the s2's.

Shot_of_Boost, this entire thread was based on the HKS272 to JUN 272 swap.

i would highly suggest u build the motor up especially since the stock rods are only good to 400 CRANK hp as tested by HKS Kansai. they took a stock motor & boosted it till it blew. rods seem to go 1st. save urself the headache & do it right the 1st. BTW JUN cams are very hard to get, but there is an authorized JUN dealer in Australia who always has EVO sets in stock...

This is a rediculous statement. 400 crank HP = 360 maybe wheel? My motor has been over that for 30K miles. Not to mention the numerous big turbo stock block guys making 500+ WHP. Where is this testing you speak of???

Sorry for the OT

i couldn't paste the link bcuz it's in Japanese & my pc doesn't have the fonts. also it is possible to make substantially more than 400 crank hp on an EVO motor but the longevity is severely reduced. just like the stock clutch, it's not if, but when. my motor is also above that number w/14k miles on it. i haven't had a problem yet but it is possible considering i'm running 30+ psi of boost all the time...

back on topic, the OP needs to build his car up the right way & not the cheap way. the motto is: Cheap, Fast, Reliable- Pick 2

No, that's MY signature and car. The OKIX car (my son's which I tune) made 513 wtq and 445 whp on the Buschur Racing Mustang dyno with these cams during the above mentioned thread.
