I've noticed that for the last few thousand miles my clutch pedal sometimes doesn't come all the way back to the engaged position and i have to put my foot underneath it and nudge it back up. It doesn't do it when I take my foot off the pedal quickly so it can move quickly into place, only when I do it slowly.

It sticks about 1/2"-1" from it's rest position. The clutch engages/disengages and shifts fine, but am constantly pulling the pedal up with my toe.

I bled the clutch thinking that would solve the problem...and it did for about two or three days. Now its back to pulling the pedal up with my toe again. One thing I did find strange is after opening/closing the bleeder valve, the clutch pedal stayed to the floor when my wife released it. I had to pull the pedal up with my hand. Is this normal or should the pedal return to its normal resting point on its own?

Anyone know what could cause the clutch pedal to stick sometimes about 1/2"-1" before it's "rest" position? It isn't' affecting driving or clutch engagement at all and the car drives fine. It's just annoying and obviously something is not right.

 

thats normal as for bleeding, not normal as far as what you are experiencing.

maybe something is loose on the clutch pedal adjustment rod ?

 

Might need a new slave cylinder...sounds like its sticking. Check to see if its boot is wet. Check the master where it comes thru the firewall and see if its dripping fluid as well. If so it needs to be replaced also.

 

Thanks for the info...I just checked and was actually hoping to see a leak around the base/boot. At least that way I would know what was wrong and could fix it, but there is no leak. Any other ideas?

 

i would try to bleed it then if that does not work look at the master and slave cylinders.

 

Probably not bleeding it properly and you still have a nice set of air bubbles in the system.

I have both a clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder(both used but work fine) For sale. Let me know.

 

I don't see how I could be bleeding it wrong, but I took your advise and bled it again. It was perfect for about a week and a half, now I'm back to pulling the pedal up with my toe.

Oh yeah, and I checked for leaks; nothing.

 

don't worry about it as long as the clutch is working. I adjusted the rod too far out so the engagement will be close to the floor.

 

lube the pivot point under the dash and yes when the pedal is up the clutch is engaged not disengaged.
