MAP censor placement. What can and cant i do ?

I bought a Intake Manifold off ebay and obviously there had to be something about it. Its a sheet metal velocity stack manifold not that it matters particularly.

Im wondering in what conditions does a map censor have to be placed in order for it to work properly ? I know that on the stock mani it is placed on a bung that is also indented in with just a tiny hole in the bottom.

Does this need to be the same or can it totally be exposed ? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. having some troubles and this may be my cause.
