Yeah he's right! Cut the oil filter open with a hacksaw and do a sectional analysis, checking for metal particles.
By the time you "cut your filter open with a hacksaw" I'm confident you'll find some metal particles -- from cutting it open with a hacksaw! Filter cutters look and work like a can opener, so that they don't create metal particles. Get one.

Your garage obviously has nicer tools than mine. Too bad You don't live down the block, or I'd be over there all the time borrowing your stuff. Do you think that the metal particles from the bearings will most likely find their way up into the filter or will they be at the bottom of the pan?

Everything good?

Just thought that it might be a good idea with the heat and vibration that may have endured. It's easy to drop the sump pan and check.

What happened, did the housing clamp come loose? If not, then it should not have done that being a defect of some sort, especially with E85's lower turbine inlet temps.

If you do decide to run the current housing with the VIII turbo for the time being I would be interested in how it does with taper and redline boost. Not to mention the actual spool sacrafice.

I did stick the 8 16g into the green housing and went for a ride. The whine got a lot quieter but for some reason stayed.... Which is weird.... It starts now at 0psi instead of -3...
The spool was s-l-o-w

So for these 2 reasons the hotside will be coming off too, i'll put my stock 9.8 in there. Hopefully sometime this week.

C6C6CH3vo, oil and pan, i haven't gotten to those yet. The clamp was fine and i have no clue what might have caused it. Something must have gotten there from the motor to start it is my best guess for now. I'm sure FP will know better. I didn't get the turbo brand new, so it might have started before i even got it and then it just kept chipping away on itself.

Also when my EGT used to work, i never saw much more than 800C at WOT. By the way...about that EGT... We installed it into the mani, while it was on the car. With the car running on slight gas to create some back pressure in the mani to blow the shavings out of there...
So:
a) some shavings might have gotten to the turbine anyway.(that was last summer)
b) maybe a part of the EGT sensor fell off and into the wheel some time recently. I tried to screw it out at some point before winter but it's rusted on, so i couldn't get it out..
