Could I run mid-high 11's with just a K&N drop in filter as my intake set-up?

I was wondering if it is actually necessary to upgrade to an open element cone filter to run mid-high 11's on the EVO 8?

Could I get away with just using a K&N drop-in panel filter?

Thanks for your interest, I'm curious cuz when and if I get an EVO I'd like to go fast on a budget.

I looked at Ultimate racing's set-up and it seems like out of all the companies out there they went the fastest while doing the least amount of mods, and SPENDING THE LEAST AMOUNT of money

Thats they way I'm gonna try to do it...
