Oil temperature probe location - filter housing or drain plug?
Oil temperature probe location - filter housing or drain plug?
Well, I am planning to install my AEM oil temp gauge and trying to identify the better location:
1) Oil filter housing
2) Oil pan drain plug
I have an AEM oil temp gauge and think #1 above is easier as I am unsure how to pull off #2.
MR's have the drain plug bolt with built-in probe and signal lead, but not sure if that works well or can be made to work with the AEM gauge...
Any advice, people?
Thanks!

So, I found this item which makes brain plug install easier, but not sure if it works with our oil pans

"Threaded for an 1/8"-27 NPT oil temp sender and M14x1.5 oil pan" - Anyone know our oil pan thread pitch and size?
Thanks!
EDIT - Evasive site says Evo ix 14x1.5 for this Kics drain plug....

So, I guess only question that remains -which location is better?

those are two good places, but there is potential problems with those locations.
In the oil pan, there is a large volume of oil just sitting, and many people argue that it will show a cooler temperature than what is flowing through the motor.
The oil filter housing mounting spot, commonly used with a oil filter sandwich is in the direct flow of the oil. A better spot, but many people claim that the sandwich will get head soaked and cause a higher reading because of this.
AMS has a remote sensor locater that seems to be a good choice. it just a steel braided line that mounts off of the filter housing or sandwich plate. Keeps vibration off of the sensor, and helps with the heat soak theory.

I just installed the sender in a new drain plug that was designed for it. It was bought at 42 draft designs. The car is taken apart and I'll know how it works tomorrow when I put things back together.

Everything is performing correctly. The thing is my oil sure dosent get very hot. Typically it stays around 140, but maybe gets to 160, and it was REALLY hot yesterday when I did this (like 90 out) - I was also in slow traffic alot.
