Gsc Or Hks

Im still debating on whether to swap out my hks cams in my evo 9 for the gsc s1 or just keep it the way it is.

I'm in the same boat. I'll probably wait up for the up coming "Indy-Buschur" cams coming out.

Turbo magazine is doing a 3 part series on cams for the Evo 8 (I know, you have a 9, so it may not apply). Martin from AMS is doing the testing. HKS was tested in the first series and did not fair so well. GSC has not been tested, maybe it will be in the third installment next month.

The first two installments were excellent. Not so much for the cam testing results, but for the explanations that Martin gives on why cam choice for your particular application and driving style is so important.

Is there anything else you could spend the money on in your car right now? If you're totally happy with everything else for sure swap those cams! But if there a few more parts you'd like, get those first

I have the GSC S1's and love them. Stock-like idle, couldn't be happier

GREAT THREAD!!!! I've been contemplating the same thing. I'm comparing the HKS and the GSC1's as well.

I'm interested in trackdays and some timetrials. To that end I really want low to mid range useable power. I'm not too concerned with the max power number. I've been told that generally, the longer the duration, the better the horsepower at higher RPM's (272 vs 268), however there are a lot of other factors that affect performace as well. The shop near me prefers the HKS because of the great support, and the fact they are a tested and known quantity. I've heard great things about the GSC1's too though.

While I'd appreceiate the opinions of other guys (and gals) who track their cars, being an engineer I'd also like some quantitative facts as to why one is better than the other.

The turbo mag article is a great start though, thanks for the idea!

Have you thought about BC 272? I'm about to buy cams and have done nothing but read about cams. It seems ppl favor these bc of great cost and even more performance. Same as GSC S1's...... Half the price. Anyone have any comments on this? This is for an evo VIII tho...
