New GT35 Killer Turbo - GT850R

As some of you know I do a lot of testing behind the scenes. I don't always post what I do because I'm so wrapped up in my work. Here is some testing I did recently that I have to share because it's so good. We were the first to help develop and test the 67mm/P trim combo turbo years ago and named it the GT37R. The name has spread and stuck and now we have something better. This new turbo I tested makes more power across the board than the GT37R with only slightly slower spool than the GT35R. And it absolutely destroys a GT35R in power!

The new turbo is much more efficient at higher pressure ratios and just flows a ton of air. New compressor wheel technology keeps spool quick while making 45whp more at the same boost level as a GT35R. 67mm wheel in the GT37R almost catches up at redline but it was down everywhere else. As far as I'm concerned this turbo will replace the GT35r and GT37R in our lineup. The good news is that this GT850R turbo will only be slightly more than our GT35R.

The setup on the car:
2.0L built bottom end 8.5:1 compression
AMS turbo kit
AMS FMIC
AMS 3" exhaust
AMS VSR Manifold
Stock TB
AMS UICP
AEM EMS
C16 on conservative tune for testing purposes
Ported head - old head we had laying around, not sure where it came from
30psi of boost
The car is a down on power in general at the higher boost levels and I'm suspecting the head. We've checked everything else out and it's good and we're down a decent amount compared to our new builds. I'll be doing a head test in the future to hopefully alleviate this problem. But for testing purposes as long as everything else is the same it's good.

Specs on the car it was tested on. And how will this new GT850R compare to a GT35HTA turbo.

So, how about an HTA GT850R twin scroll? That would be the ultimate, right?

(just had to post it tongue-in-cheek before someone else posted it seriously)

Congrats on the testing. Looks very promising.

Very nice dyno graph, that turbo looks great.

Just so you know though, I was running 7's on the 67 Ptrim back in 2002, I just didn't call it a 37r

The new turbo technology is nuts. Great testing.

Sorry, I should have been specific.. putting that combo in a T3 housing with a trimmed down P trim exh. wheel. I really nice setup that worked back in the day but had reliability issues was 67 wheel with the Garrett GT37 (diesel turbo) exhaust wheel. That was pretty wicked because of the lower backpressure over the cut down P trim.
There is a lot of cool new stuff coming out, I'm very excited!

Sweet. I think over the past year or so I've said I'm glad I haven't upgraded yet like 20 times because so many advances have happened.

This is a single scroll turbo

This thing is bad ***. I think half the guys that work here all want one put on order LOL

Its hard to get excited about things working here at AMS with all the big cars we produce and great builds but every now and then something really cool comes out that catches all of our attention....this is one of those times.
