Unhappy Evo fender well STICKY

Question...

I was attempting to clean fender wells on my Evo the other day when I touched the inside of the fenderwell, and got this black, sticky, gummy **** all over my hand!???? Anyone else experience this? What the hell? Is it supposed to be underbody spray to protect from snow, etc? How long will it continue to stay 'wet'???

It can't be, the evo was only 4 days old...I didn't even have 100 miles on it yet...strange, eh?

that's all fine...I figured that's what it was, but I have two issues:

1. It's NOT dry
2. Gravel from the tires is collecting in this friggin goop!!

A brotha can't be showing up to the car shows with gravel-lined fenderwells! What to do!???

Nope, I've babied the Evo, hell I bought it three weeks ago, and there's just over 300 miles on it. Maybe I'll just make another trip to the dealership...

It is the protective coating. WRX's have it too. I don't know how to get it off, but I think mine has worn off somehow.

Go out in the sand somewhere and just spin the hell out of the tires and sand blast it out.

"The protective coating" ??? Do you mean the undercoat? Or do you mean some special spray used under the car during shipping?

I've got it too and it makes it impossible to clean your wheel wells if you get them dirty.

Possibly it is tire wetting spray (tire dressing) your dealer put on prior to delivering the car. If they did it in a messy way I could see how it would be coating the wheel wells.

I don't have this protective coating. It's all clean black plastic.

I'm jealous. I had thought it was standard (see https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...threadid=29551), but maybe it's not?

I thought about cleaning it off, but was afraid of making myself illegal for stock class autocross. If it's not standard, then that's a different story...

It came from the factory - some dealers might have cleaned it off. I guess even the cars used by RMR to build their rally cars had it. The techs there hate that crap and you need Lava or something to wash it off your hands...
