Turbosmart BOV Problems! help?

okay guys, new member here, got a serious question about my 04 evo VIII. start with some good news and bad news. finally saved up enough money last yr to put a payment on my evo, took it school in upstate ny, and throughout the yr "someone" keyed my door, threw a rock at my other door, and rubbed my back bumper. came back home to philly, and had the entire car stipped and re-painted. after 3 shoooort weeks, i got the car back. took it out today to drive it for a while since it had just been sitting for 3 weeks, and noticed that my turbosmart dual port was not venting at all. i had it set to VTA as well as re-circulated for the past yr with no problems whatsoever. normally if the car had been sitting for a few days (esp in the cold) the BOV would not make any "whoosh" sound at first, but once warmed up went back to normal. however today it was about 90 degrees, so i cannot figure out why its silent. checked with the body shop and no one even touched the engine. i know how most of you guys hate aftermarket BOV's on evos and burn everyone who has one, but looking past this im looking for any suggestions or solutions anyone has. afraid to drive it until i get it resolved, taking it to my shop next sat. any thoughts? thanks for the help

I had this same BOV and put it on for about 100 miles and hated it..
It wouldn't hold 23+ psi boost for $*it..
Sounds cool, but didn't hold high psi at all.
fluttered like mad.

Took it off and went back to the oem MR bov that came on the car and haven't looked back since.
Holds 25+ psi with no prob.

Sounds to me like the spring valve is stuck.
Can you push on the diaphragm/valve and make it move at all?

So if it were me, i would unscrew the thing all the way out and then all the way back in and try some wd40 or something inside where the spring and valve is..
Maybe that'll free it up...

If that doesn't work, I still have mine in the box almost brand new [100 miles] that I'll sell for cheap.. real cheap..
good luck..

sick9, thanks for the advice.
i tried using my finger to reach into the vent and push down the metal diaphragm, but it wouldnt move. I dont know if thats bc the spring is stuck like u said or that I just can get enough force to push it down.

when you say push it down, do you mean by reaching into the vent?

And when you say unscrew the entire thing, are you talking about twisting the adjustable top of the bov? so if i loosen it all the way, i should be able to move the metal diaphragm enough to spray a little wb40 in there?

thats some good advice, im gona take the car out now and see what i can accomplish. im just worried about driving it hard and damaging the turbo. and hey, if i can figure out whats wrong, i may be taking u up on your bov offer.

it happened to you before? after you took it apart and oiled the cylinder did u experience any further problems?

what would you recommend as the first step to taking it apart? anything else i need to worry about when removing the bov? sorry for the "stupid" questions, i am just not starting to do my own work on the car and cant afford to mess it up before a long trip this weekend. thanks guys

okay that makes sense and makes me feel a little better. any recommendations for oil i should use. I have some regular metal lubricant and some oil, didnt no which one would be better. how do i go about taking the bov apart and oiling it.

should i just rub oil on the cylinder while its still on the car then run the engine, or do i actually need to diassemble the entire thing and oil it.

if i need to take it apart, whats the best way to start and how do i do it? thanks for all the help!

go to a auto store and get some mobile one synthetic grease. take the bov off and mark where you have the top of the bov (part that you turn to adjust spring tension). now unscrew the top of the bov, be carefull because the spring inside is under pressure. once you have it disassembled clean it with a cloth. now use the synthetic grease to lightly lube up the inside of the bov as well as the brass plunger. wipe off any excess grease and reinstall the plunger, spring, and screw the top back on back to the mark you made earlier.

i clean mine at every oil change

okay that sounds like a good plan and something that can be accomplished quickly. i think from now on every oil change i might as well take it apart and give it a good cleaning. until i have time to clean it fully, is there any potential damage to the turbo or anything by driving it around? ive been staying outta boost but i jus wana make sure im not going to do damage by driving her. thanks guys you have been a big help, hopefully i will be able to post good results soon! heading to the auto store tom...
