Yes Gates is the actual manufacturer. Get the gates, cheaper and just as good!

It's 2013 and an update would be welcome - this was the only thread I found on a quick search, so bear with dragging this out the grave

I looked up Gates: http://www.gates.com/brochure.cfm?br...cation_id=3487 - doesn't seem to say kevlar any place. Weren't OEM belts kevlar?

Which is the best belt one can get today for a stock level Evo 9 that sees abuse on track?

You need to remember your not going to get any more life from that belt no matter what you buy. You still need to change it every 60k no matter the name. OEM or gates get my vote.

just to add a side note, this doesn't mean all the belts are made to the same requirements...

In addition, have you ever seen someone break an OEM belt?.......

Agree with this statement. And no, while I haven't seen anyone break an OEM belt, it would be good to see the options out there. Also, just to play the devil's advocate - no one's really said why HKS or Greddy wouldn't be as good as the OEM belts - I've never seen them break either. So why are they about a $100 more than Gates? Surely no one's concerned with 'brand' on a belt?

And with the experience you guys have with Gates, it seems like a good option, but no one answered to whether they're also made of the kevlar material like the OEM belt? Is there any specific reason you'd not recommend going to an HKS or Greddy apart from cost?
