Found this on the Tomei website. I have to think from reading this that they plugged that hole.

" Stock blow-off valve of Evo is equipped with the function that relieves the boost pressure if the boost goes up too much at the time of accelerator-on."

"As for a TOMEI blow-off valve, only the boost pressure relief function has eliminated while the turbine protection function is left."

I called Tomei today asked about the valve and just got this email from them. It does sound like they plugged the reference hole, if that's the case your BOV flutter would be explained. They may have done the first part of the Dejon install for you. Here's a link to a write up "Trinidex" did about it. https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...ighlight=dejon

Gregg,

Thank you for your inquiry earlier today. Again, I sincerely apologize for not being able to answer your question at the time, however I will strive to provide you with the best information possible to make up for my lack of knowledge of this product. The difference between the stock bov and Tomei is:

The Japanese spec 4G63 engine at the stock trim has a blow off valve that is identical in shape as our blow off valve. The Tomei unit is simply a modified Mitsubishi BOV. When boost starts building on a stock engine (when the throttle is pressed, not let go), the BOV allows a little bit of air to escape, making the boost level insufficient, inaccurate, and unstable. The more the boost is increased, the more serious this problem becomes. The unstableness of the boost pressure can be viewed on a boost gauge, where if the boost is set at 1.3kg/cm2, it will hit 1.3, and drop down, not able to maintain that boost throughout the powerband. We predict that Mitsubishi designed the BOV this way to prevent overboost, spike, and to prevent damage to the turbocharger.

Now, the Tomei unit is built stronger to accommodate for higher boost pressures. The boost will be pinned right at the target level, and will not relieve air while the throttle is depressed. Why? The internal design has been reworked by our engineers.

I hope this answers your questions.

ok i will try to remove the bottom cover and take a pic for you during the weekend. would this be similar to placing the BOV the opposite way?

Hmmmm.....interesting. I guess it's worth a shot at this point. The way it is now is definitely a mood killer. I'd like to not have to think about it when I want to give it some gas....seems like I have to prepare the car for 5 seconds before I can mash it......total buzz kill for me.

wow- didnt realize the tomei bov came with that hole plugged......explains a lot.

the main reason i stilll run the metal oem bov for its drivability characteristics during city driving/low rpm any boost good behaviors.

the reason i bought a greedy ????......rs????, because it has a reference port for top & bottom of the diaphram.....i was going to just add a port to the hose mount & connect that to the bottom side = oem style with the ability to crank in preload if i want to run higher boost....howevr their w/g diaphgrapms are crap.....

put the oem metal bov on & be done with it.

I'm very curious to see if that hole is plugged, sure sounds like it is.

Well the car did this with stock BOV on a green as well. I bought the Tomei to help solve the issue and it still happens.

Get a solenoid and a switch that activates it and call it a day.

Same with me. Same partial throttle flutter @ lowRPM's higher gears Stock or Tomei did the same. I bought the Tomei to hold boost better up top but my green still couldn't beat my stock turbo numbers. Oh well...Another thread topic maybe?
