Switched to Amsoil

Made the switch to Amsoil Saturday.

Did the oil w/Wix filter, transmission, transfer case, and rear differential. Had two problems that were really only minor but cost me time. The first was the dealership that did my oil change (this is the first since I have owned the car three to four months now) must have put the oil drain plug in with the car lifted and a gorilla to torque the thing up. I finally had to use a torque wrench as it was longer and would give me more leverage to break the thing loose.

The other incident was not judging the flow of transmission fluid quite right and spilling about ¼ to ½ a quart on my garage floor when it shot out of the drain hole. The smell lingered for an about a day.

Now for my opinion on Amsoil, in case anyone cares or has interest. All I can say is wow, I am seriously impressed. I could not have imagined there would be a real difference.

I had read on here some posters saying that they got a HP increase and that there was a difference in the shifting. I was not sure about this and sort of took it with a grain of salt thinking it was nothing really. I now believe I might have been wrong to assume such as that. I cannot vouch or prove more HP. But I can certainly say the car seems to pull a little faster. It feels like the car is freer in its movement, has more power, or is no longer being held back. Also I can say the car does now shift smoother. Everything about it (engine, drive train wise) seems to be more fluid like and natural at least more so than before.

Big thanks to Oil Doc by the way. He is a great guy to do business with.

I thought about it once, but I decided that all the work was not worth the hastle. I don't track my car so I really have no need to spend much more on oil every 3k miles. But trans I might consider.

I'm glad you like it. You might have convinced me to do the trans. Maybe the diff.

I don’t track my car either. I do though drive a little aggressive at times.

I just switched because my research on here pointed to it being a better product for the car. It was actually pretty easy job to do aside from the two problems I mentioned. Next time the oil drain plug will not be a problems as I used a torque wrench to properly put it back in same with the others.

Also it is sort of enjoyable to do things like that with your hands from time to time. At least I enjoy it that is.

I do though recommend the trans fluid if you do nothing else. But I highly recommend doing the whole system.

Sure, here is the list.
10W-30 engine oil, 75W-90 GL4 trans fluid, 75W-90 EP severe gear for the transfer and differential and WIX 57092 filter. Send Oil Doc a PM and he can hook you up with what will be right for your car. Got everything shipped to my door for a great price too.

I was able to use the torque wrench on everything except the rear differential fill plug. I just used a crescent wrench on it, simply because it is a pretty narrow spot. I need to find a box or open end type torque wrench for this plug. All the others are pretty easy to get to aside from the transfer case fill which I used an extension to reach. Other than that it was pretty easy.

Cool, I am sure you will not regret it. I don’t regret my purchase and I am still amazed that I can feel a difference in the car. It’s not like I dropped in a bolt on but it sure feels different.

Let us know what you think when you get them in.

I really appreciate all the good words, both about AMSOIL and Me..

This is one of the rare times when it comes to anything AMSOIL, I am at a loss for words.

Thank you, Everyone.

We sell Amsoil at my work also. Stuff works great. I've had the engine oil in there for quite a while, but I have the trans. and diff. fluid sitting at work.

I planned on sticking with the OEM Diaqueen or whatever the stuff is called for the t-case though. You persuaded me to get another couple quarts for the t-case though.

They also have a fairly informative product look-up page on their website. I'll see if I can find a link.

Edit: It's an obvious link on the first page:
