Tilton went out on me

I just recently got a 03 Evo VIII and it has a tilton cerametallic clutch in it. with in 2-3 weeks of driving the car i noticed clutch slippage tremendously. I guess im going to have to get it rebuilt. Are the rebuilds reasonable? I have done some reading and most say under $400. It is my weekend car and will soon be big turbo so I know tilton is good for high hp cars. I noticed when i first drove the car the clutch trying to take off on a hill or at a stop light is very tricky. I couldn't feather it like most clutches to take off. Is that normal? I appreciate any feedback I get on this.

ether rebuild it so switch to an exedy. Depending on how much power to want to make, youmight want to pick up a triple

Im not sure on the cera, I know that the carbons if they arent destroyed are only like $250 and can range up to around 1k. Im not sure on the cerametallics though.

That's a bummer , I've seen the carbon go out in less than 2 weeks on me , I thought ceramic would hold up a little longer.

We installed one ~2 months ago and ~1000 miles on it and the splines in the discs stripped out on both discs. Input shaft on the tranny was fine. This was using the Twin Ceramatallic unit.

WOW That's just like the other member here that had the same issue w/ his Exedy Twin.

Others have been having good success with Spec Twin disks. If you don't rebuild it that may be an option.

Experianced Tilton user here.

1st. Tilton Hybrid, good for 17,000 miles. Organic Disk gone, Ceremetallic Disk was good.

2nd. Converted Hybrid to full Cerametallic. Lasted 16,000 miles. Disks were good, Hydrolic Bearing Failure after ~ 35,000 miles on original.

3rd. New Unit all new parts, so far, 10,000 plus miles, may launches on it.

To service Tiltons, New Disks cost about 250.00 for both cerametalics.
If you also get new Floater and Pressure Plates, those with the Disks cost about 450.00.
Cover plate runs about 250.00.
Etc.

The nice thing about Tiltons is that you can order every part, or bolt, separate. Buying only what you need.
Very nice Clutch, but expenssive to run.

You will never miss gears, literaly. And the reductiopn weight in rotating mass is good.

If unsure about the Clutch, it is better to ship it to Tilton for a re-build. Any where from 400.00 to 600.00.

Good luck.
