Need Trans Suggestions
Drove my '03 EVO VIII 300 miles and developed clutch/trans problems. Had to leave the car at a Mitsubishi dealer 5 hrs from home and now dealing with the problem long distance.
Dealer's report is: Passenger transfer case leaked fluid. Front axel seal & trans was almost dry & metal ran throughout trans. Quote for labor to install a new clutch and new trans is $1300. I bought an ACT clutch which is being shipped to them. They want $3600 for a new stock trans!!!!
I don't know anything about types of trans, new, rebuilt, reg. stages etc. Car is for street use only, has 55K miles and runs at about 360 hp. Have check out TRE and other trans on-line but there's too much information.
Question is: do I go with the dealer for install, parts or do I tow the car an hour to a performance shop and get after market equipment? If so what equipment?
Help!!!!

TRE is good too. Dont go stock if you have to replace. Remove the old one and send it off to either company for rebuild.
Dont trust the dealer. They know you are far from the shop and it is a headache. They are counting on that to make money off of you. Upgrade when you break parts.
