Your thread is misleading. Dependent on where you are in the rev range will determine the audible "loudness" or in this case the "quietness" you are referring to. Are you talking WOT? Cruise? The Magnaflow has just about the perfect tone as a cat-back. With the addition of the other components, (o2, downpipe, testpipe), it absolutely roars at WOT yet is still pretty docile during cruise. I would go Magnaflow due to great quality (full stainless) and fitment as well as it being the lowest in price. Hope that helps.

The tanabe Madalion is very quiet with the stock downpipe and cat. I would say it is very close to stock at normal driving and idle. My friends didnt even know I got an exhaust. Once you put a test pipe it gets louder.
If you want quiet and your not as picky as me, then I suggest the cobb or RRE. Both are full 3" systems and are as quiet as you can get with those specifications. There arent any droning at any rpms and mph but you can still hear the exhaust note slightly in the car.
As for me anything louder than stock even by 1 decibal, then consider it as too loud for me.

"my target is noise level/droning at 60-70 mph cruising"
Okay, with the Magnaflow Cat-Back setup, there is no drone at the specified mph range you mentioned. However, as a TBE there is a minor resonance, yet nowhere along the lines of annoying/obnoxious/too loud/etc.

Tanabe catback tapers down to the cat, on the other hand WORKS is full 3" from cat all the way. Do your research I hear good results on WORKS but do not get the Steath muffler like mentioned. I have WORKS IP and custom 3" Steath exhaust. Wife and infant appoved!
If you got the money the WORKS is the best one (most expensive also) it is a little quieter than the COBB too. I was going to get the COBB but got a good deal on the WORKS (they got 10% off and Free Shipping last year) and got the WORKS full TBE. I just need to add an turbo outlet to complete my exhaust.

We've been running a WORKS non-res IP and LTD AB for some four years now. The parts fit like OEM and look great after 32000 hard miles of use. No drone on the freeway and a good, healthy, deep tone at WOT. We also used this set-up for autox with no problems, it stays on! And no trouble with the man when it comes to noise in town, very mellow. I'd say for overall fit, performance, sound and how well its held up over the years, the WORKS exhaust was a good investment towards overall improvement of the car, well worth it!

The Magnaflow w/ stock cat is very quiet. But with a test pipe it's much louder and starting to annoy me on the highway after several months.
It's not so much a drone as it's just loud in the cruising RPM range (80mph @ 3500-4000 or so). But on the street it's fairly normal IMO. I am currently looking to sell my Magnaflow cat-back for a quieter stealth option though. The Magnaflow passes the gf test but I would still like something quieter because of where I live.
