Clutch Question..(very specific)

SEE POST #15.

Ok Guys. Another clutch thread (as if there aren't enough)

So after about 3hrs of reading and still unsatisfied, I came up with 4 very specifc questions that remain unanswered. I will be in the market for a clutch soon and I have narrowed it down to 6, all of which are push-style clutches. My car is a DD right now, but will be parked for the winter for a few changes (while i drive a hooptie). Next year it will see less than 8k of street driving (as long as I can pay insurance on two cars), with much more track use (drag). My ACT (slipping) is still in and lasted me 24,000 + miles with 30+ launches (HDG6). I like the idea of a push-style clutch, but money does come into play. The car makes enough power to justify the need for a twin-disk, (cerametallic is a minimum). If I dont get the answers im looking for then, an exedy HD twin will have to do with the "clip mod". The choices are:

1. Tilton twin cerametallic
2. ClutchMaster FX700
3. HKS GD Max Twin
4. QuarterMaster Twin Carbon
5. Spec Twin disc
6. Carbonetics twin carbon (the least favorite)

**Carbon clutches listed only because they were push-style!!!

good threads to read:

^^post 12 was good

^^ good thread evodan

^^retaining clip mod

BTW (the quarter master is a favorite at the moment, but solid disc are not to my liking)

Question # 1: Is there a twin- disc clutch that has all of the following 3 characteristics in one package? CERAMETALLIC/PUSH-STYLE/SPRUNG DISC.

Question # 2: Which of the above choices comes closest to the criteria?

Question # 3: Why isnt there much info on the Clutchmaster FX700 and Spec twin-disc clutches?

Question # 4: is there another clutch that should have been listed?

Thanks guys!!

AMS makes a kit that converts the Exedy twin to a push style. Only good for 5 speeds.

I saw that. That bumps the price up considerably. I would rather go with a clutch that is already a push style

I have the Spec twin disc, rated at 1000ft/lbs. It is a Push Style Clutch, they make this clutch in several different disc material options. I must say it is a heavy duty clutch but is not a bear for daily driving. I feel good about it being in my Evo. I drag race and wanted the grip but also the minute slipping of a tiwn disc to lessen the harshness of shock on my TCase. Spec has several different options, and it is a beautifully made clutch, very high quality. Let me know if you need any additional info as EPM is an authorized Spec Dealer.

Ok. Thanks for the info. I never looked at spec cluthes with much interest. The fact that they have many variations, it should be worth taking a second look at this brand.

You dont have to buy the pull style clutch and then convert. We sell the entire clutch as a push style from Exedy.

a little confused here Ivan. Is this what you are referring to:

http://www.amsperformance.com/store/...Path=22_45_282

The metallic HD push-style twin still cost about $2299. I must admit its a saving if you were to buy the clutch and the conversion seprately. Still, it's over the 2K mark which I think is a bit much.

Thanks for the input

Back from the dead!!!
Still on my act HDG6, back to a stock turbo (9 turbo). Since November a few new advances have come out but still no sprung(key word- sprung) push style twin-disk (cerametalic) clutches exist other than exedy. So my best bet is to go with the exedy HD w/hydraulic throwout bearing.
What exactly does the hydraulic throw out bearing do? Is it used to convert pull to push?
