Bushur TBE vs. Cobb TBE

So, wondering what people opinions are between the two systems.

I am refering to the standard Cobb TBE and the Bushur TBE w/Magnaflow. I know that the Cobb system has had issues with its weld quality and is a quiet system. I also know that the bushur is one of the lightest systems on the market. I have searched around but I cannot find anything that really compares these 2 directly.

So, for the Cobb,
1. Can anyone comment on the weld issue?
2. How loud is it, how does it work for DD?

And, the BR,
1. How loud is this system w/ or w/o HFC using the Magnaflow muffler, how is it for DD?
2. How is the quality of this system.

And in comparison?
1. How do they compare in loudness to each other? Any dB information?
2. How do their tip sizes compare?
3. How do the two compare as far as gains? Which makes more power?
4. How do they compare as far as fit/finish?

I have the Buschur "Quiet" with the Magnaflow muffler so I can add some insight on that. It is a very lightweight system and the piping seems to be straighter than most which are both definite pluses. The tip is 4" diameter which fits the stock bumper cutout nicely. Fitment is good as everything lines up as it should but I wish the downpipe utilized a cup-style flange to utilize the gasket on the o2 housing. The quality is ok; I hate the slip-flanges though and the whole system seems to be rusting and pitting faster than I'd like for a supposed stainless steel system. The exhaust tone is great though; its definitely one of my favorite sounding Evo exhaust systems. I have a testpipe and its perfectly fine for daily driving. My fiancee is happy with the volume and my parents haven't minded either when they've been in the car. Its still very easy to carry on a conversation, talk on the phone, listen to the radio, etc. I would never consider a high-flow cat on my car though; paying extra money for less horsepower...no thanks!

Can you comment on the DP flange and the rust further? Can you compare it to the Cobb at all? (if youve heard a Cobb TBE). O, and does the exhaust look weird? I mean, the muffler, I saw some pics that looked ok with the BR TBE but others that it looked goofy... Like the muffer hang down and was visable.

I have the buschur system as well. As far as the flange goes, you have to remove the donut gasket in order to put the downpipe on. No big deal IMO. The exhaust looks great as well. I would rather have the straight on muffler design than some fart pipe looking muffler. I have no issues with rust and I am dd it in the snow and still no issues. Look no further.

the buschur exhaust with either muffler is loud...they don't deny that

the thing I like about the buschur system is the recessed muffler...all you see from the back is the tip which is rolled and honestly has a very subtle look to it...doesn't scream street racer

Where to begin......

Cobb turbo back exhaust: (pertaining to the one I had)

1.
The welds around the muffler and flanges looked good and strong. The problem was the welds on the resonator. Not the part that connects to the pipe, but the one at the point where the resonator curves down to the exhaust pipe.

I took it to a shop and had them weld it up. It was only about 1.5-2 inches in length split. Later on I was examining the resonator welds more closely and sort of figured out why it happend. In my hypothesis who ever made that part also sands down the weld to then polish it smooth and flush. Resonator shells are thin, so the already thin welds used on thin metal become thinner when shaved and polished. The stress of the weight and natural movements caused it to split at the weakest point.

I dont know if cobb addressed the issue or not but from my experience that was the only issue I had with my exhaust. The rest of the welds looked to be healthy and lasting.

2.
I was running the Cobb Down pipe, Megan Racing resonated test pipe, and Cobb catback. It is probably the most quietest non tapering evo exhaust there is. I even tried out the RRE stealth exhaust and the cobb is a little quieter.

There arent any drones no matter the RPM. The exhaust tip is about 4" diameter and it will visually pass as a shiny stock exhaust. Now dont expect someone to go behind your car and with it running to think its stock. It has a deep bassy sound when running without a catalytic converter. But nothing obnoxious. Inside the cabin it is quiet and you can enjoy music at low 20's volume on the stock stereo. Outside it is qiuet as well when driving , cops will never give you any problems. WOT, it is not that loud and wont attract attention, like other exhaust tend to do miles away.

I got rid of it because I want to be exactly as quiet as stock. So I am going to be building my own exhaust using the Jun BL and cutting out their muffler. I just only wish that they made it from V band flanges. I'm tired of 2 bolt flanges thats why I chose to modify the Jun BL rather than the cobb.

As for the Buschur exhaust. Make sure you get the V band flange version. In the end its well worth the money for ease of install/removing, and you dont have to worry about replacing gaskets!

Judging from the pictures, the Buschur and Cobb tips look very similar. But from what I do know the Buschur system is not quiet in my opinion. For many people it might be tollerable, but I am very picky when it comes to exhaust noise. Best sounding exhaust in my opinion is one that you cant hear! So when I tell you something is quiet or tollerable, you best believe it.

yea i have the cobb and its very quiet but yea as BluEVOIX said the welds sucked on the resonator pipe mine broke also but cobb sent me a new one within days.. and as of the looks it has a real stock apperance which is great in mass because the police hate cars with altered exhausts

Thumbs up

I have the Cobb TBE. It fits perfectly, and I love the sound. Deep but not too loud unless you're at full throttle. No drone inside. I also appreciate the new tie-bar spacers and bolts that came with the kit. I almost ordered a set from someone else because I didn't know that Cobb included them.

Its tough for me to comment about the Cobb as I've never seen or heard one in person. My downpipe flange just doesn't seal that well against the o2 housing since its flat and the o2 housing is supposed to have a ball gasket and does leak at least a little bit on every Buschur I've personally seen. Every other aftermarket downpipe, even the eBay ones, come with the correct flange to mate up with the o2 housing gasket. As for the rust, its just surface rust on the piping, welds, and flanges; not a huge deal but its visually unappealing. My muffler does hang low, can be seen, and will scrape going over speed bumps if the car has 4 people in it. I am happy overall with the Buschur exhaust, but I don't think I buy it again with some of the other options on the market. But, like I did previously say, I love how it sounds, its not too loud, its lightweight, and it has the least about of bends = least restriction = most power. One good thing about the slip flanges on the Buschur though is it helps tweak the fitment so it can stick out more/less from the bumper. My best advice is meet up with your local Evo groups and listen to a few different setups and figure out which best suits your needs. Everyone likes and wants something different in their parts and as I'm sure you'll find there will always be people who love what other dislike and nobody will ever agree on any one certain product.

I love the Buschur TBE. The slips fit design is ok. Makes it easy for any sort of adjustment that may be needed. It looks nice from the rear. Of course I'm biased towards the bullet muffler for I think it looks and sounds better and the fact that that's what I have The only time I've heard the BR TBE with the magnaflow was at a car meet where another Evo with the magnaflow BR exhaust drove past at 5mph. It was REAL quiet compared to my Bullet muffler. Never heard the magnaflow at WOT in person. I'm sure it's considerably quieter. Especially with an HFC. My test pipe increased noise level a decent amount.

One night, I was alone and pulled on to one of the main roads in my town, wide open, no cars around, I decided to lay into it. I get a text meesage from a buddy of mine, lives about 3/4 miles away. It's says "U drivin'?", I call him and say, "what did you hear me?". He replies, "Yeah. I'm in my house, windows closed, watching TV. Your car is obnoxious, haha". I love it. The BR exhuasts have a uniqe sound that many other TBE's don't offer. There are many reasons to love the BR TBE's. Looks, price, quality, power, weight, etc. In my opinion, it's hard to to beat.

I have the Cobb TBE and I love it, never seen a BR or heard in person but in videos I love the sound it makes. For a DD I would recomend the cobb, is quiet and it looks very stock, the tip is smaller than BR so when cops look at it they don't bother you. As for the welds, I had no issues and I had this TBE for 4 months, here is a link with pics of my install
