High altitude + high rev = problem?
As you may or may not know, I live in Southern California and also Boulder, CO. I drove the evo around socal for around 3 1/2-4 months (approx 4000 miles).
Drove to colorado in august, and now I have just under 6000 miles.
Since being here in Colorado, I've been noticing this "new" sound comming from the engine when I take the gears up to redline. It's a stressfull, almost "exhausting" sound - as if the engine is hitting it's limits. Makes this tiny chattering, vibrating sound. (my first thoughts, PING - but im not quite sure i know what that sounds like exactly. ive heard example WAVs on the net, but mine does not sound as extreme as those sound samples.)
While at the lower altitudes I never had this. Everything was OK. Sounded fine.
Anyone want to lend their opinions on what's going on here. Should I have this checked out?
thanks

i would suspect that your car is suffering from the lack of oxygen in the high altitudes, much like you would if you were running there. i'd give the ecu a little time to figure out wth is goin on. if it still persists after a week, call a dealer there. good luck man.
If you'd like, I'd be down to drive out to Boulder, and we could compare the sound that your engine is making, to the way that my engine sounds. I've never noticed this sound with my Evo, but if it's something that's caused by altitude, I wouldn't know it sounded funny. PM me if you're interested.
