blowing fuse problems
blowing fuse problems
Im blowing the fuse under the hood for the motor. A little background and info the car cut off going down the road about five months ago it was close to winter so i just parked it and i just figured that it was the pump. Well today i went down and started to get it out for summer and saw that the 20 amp fuse was blown and i replaced it and it fired right up. Ok then i drove it for about 10mins and then it just died and wouldnt crank blew the same fuse i let the car cool replaced the fuse and took off for about a min and the car cut off again the fuse blew again but it will run while cold. I have talked to some people and they seem to think that its the fuel pump goin out? I currently have a walbro 255 and its about 2 years old. Any help would be great to me before i go and get another pump.
Hey man, I have a thought tonite. It could be either the windings in the fuel pump like we spoke about, or 1 of the 3 relays getting hot and causing the resistance to change enough to blow the fuse. Some things to check:
1- check for rodent traces. See if they have chewed on some of the wiring. it is pretty common in our area, and they love the taste of the insulation. that would cause a short in the circuit.
2- check the 2 relays on the fire wall. Those 2 are the one's that control the variable voltage to the pump. They are right next to each other to the right of the abs pump. You can by pass them using the diagrams in my thread, just dont bypass the 3rd relay. that is the one the ECU uses to cut the power to the pump. https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...-hot-wire.html
3- replace the pump. i would go ahead and do that one just to be safe. No telling if the shorting of the circuit has effected the pump's operation yet or not.

I just fixed an Evo with a similar problem with the fuse blowing, and the pump shorted out. I replaced the pump and the problem was gone! If you still have your stock pump I'd throw that in only to see if that fixes your problem.
