Transmission Broke

I was filming two slower cars run the other night so I was just easing through the gears to stay beside them. I get off the interstate and when I start driving again and get into 4th I hear a kind of hummin/grinding sound so I shift to 5th and it goes away. I try the other gears and they sound normal. I go to shift from 3rd to 4th and it grinds then goes in and the sound is still there but I do have a 4th gear still. I park the car but then decide to baby it home. On the way home I notice I can hear what sounds like pieces of something being tossed around and the sound is there until the car stops moving. So obviously something is wrong and its getting fixed but do you guys have any good guesses on what exactly might have happened?

teeth on 4th gear failed and most likely took out the rest of the trans. Chances are, everything else will need replaced. My 4th gear blew and I drove it about .25 mile down the return lane back to the trailer and mine is trashed it sounds like.

So chances are, your case is the only thing you'll be re-using.

Kinda hard to believe everything is trashed since 4th gear is really the only one that sounds aweful. If all the teeth were sheared off 4th then how does it still move the car in 4th? Its being pulled tonight then sent to Dan to get fixed so we will see. Hopefully their Bushwacker for $850 covers everything.

Mines at Buschur right now.

Its probably lost about 1/2 the teeth. Just enough to still move. It gets trashed because all the teeth you lost are flying around in the fluid and nicking and dinging up the other gears. Its not they are trashed, they just get all dinged up and nicked to the point it will cause other things to fail.

Im not saying its a guarantee its trashed, just a good possibility it is. I know one of my friends had a gear fail and his bill was just over $2k.
