BOV noise

my co worker has an evo 8. its completely stock except a cone filter. her boyfriend was messing with it the other day, and now when she is in boost and lifts, instead of making the normal bov noise, to me it sounds like compressor surge. shes afraid to get into boost now. keep in mind the bov is stock. could it be stuck closed? any help would be great. thanks.

That's what my stock evo sounded like with just a filter, when you let off at partial throttle, it will make like a flutter through the intake. It's normal.

well she has had the filter on for a while. she said he boyfriend was working on her car, and now it makes that noise. she said its never done it before. she said he doesn't know anything about cars. so he may have put it in backwards.

will it hurt anything to have it on backwards?

Yes, it will hurt it to be backwards. Put it back on the right way.

Ok, soo my evo is doing the same thing.

"Flutter-dumping"

To my understanding this is not good. I haven't drove the car except for home from the dealership and around the area for a little bit. About 140 miles.

Is there a way to fix this myself? That isn't too hard?

If so could I get picture instructions? Please? lol...

Well, in the thread it say's intake and B.O.V.

And the reason why I am asking is so I don't mess with something that doesn't need to be messed with. So, I was asking for instruction's for it.

I have a dual port turbosmart B.O.V. and I don't really see how it can be flipped.

I have only had this car for 3 week's you can't expect me to be an evo mechanic. And, I don't have the time to search this forum for hour's trying to get an answer.

And the picture instructions were pretty much a joke. I just wan't someone to tell me if it's a easy thing to fix and some good instructions. But, picture instructions would be awesome... lol...

Thanks for your help bud...

no need to be a smart ***. my sarcasm detector is going crazy.
im new to the evo forum, but im not new to automotive forums in general. do some research. thats what the forum is for. your negative criticism of the instructions here is not needed. if you take the time to read my original question, you will see that i said that my co workers bov was STOCK. hence the noise it was making was bad. you have an aftermarket bov on your car. some of them are made to make the fluttering noise because people like it.

here is how you find out if its working. have someone rev your car. put your hand up to the bov, if you feel a burt of air when they lift off, its working right.

FYI for the newbs. The stock evo BOV must also recirculate. Sometimes owners feel they must install a Vent to Atmosphere (VTA) BOV to here the "psssht". This causes all kinds of small drivability probs as it dumps metered air that the ecu has already accounted for.

Dual Port BOV such as the APS or Turbosmart (I assume) recirculate and under high boost partially VTA.

Point is. Dont mess with the stock setup. You will induce problems. You may not notice it all the time, but it is well documented on this site.

I welcome the new members. Please enjoy the site. Search. Then feel free to ask unanswered questions. Most of us will help and not flame. Not all the time....but most of the time. There is a wealth of knowledge that if applied correctly, will allow you to maintain and upgrade your car with proven methods.
