whats the torque spec.

in my dsm when I ever had it off - i just made sure it was good and coated with locktite and then put it on with an airgun. Just dont try to BLOW the thing apart.. if you have put wheels on - and then torqued them - you know how much it takes to get to or close to 100 ft lbs.. so just plan a lil more for the 140 or what ever is required.

Don't do this/\ If the transmission is off get a pry-bar and have someone hold the flywheel into place with it while you tourqe it down. If the transmission is on put the car into 2nd gear and have someone apply the brakes or the e-brake might work, and just tourqe it to spec.

The evo is a complex machine that is very sensitive to vibration especially on the stock ECU, make sure you don't cut corners on anything under your hood.

You have never build a motor.

Or ever worked on a DSM...

Cuz first -- if the trans is off for a simple timing belt job... you did something wrong.

Second - Holding the brake like you suggested will cause nothing but headache.

Third -- Ecu? vibration? -- Put down the crack pipe.

I agree, an air wrench works best for this. An alternative is to make a tool that has two holes in it that match the holes in the sprocket and a cutout for the bolt and washer. I have one of these too, made back when I had a DSM.

The "play" you run in to -- is the springs in your clutch.

You most likely got a very inaccurate reading on your torque... fyi.

I dont have air either. I have a badass electric impact that i use on cam bolts and crank bolts. Works like a charm -- and doesnt have the kohanoes to break anything.
