When rotating the crank by hand it makes a funny noise kinda too.
So Im thinking its just the attributes of a kevlar belt.
I dunno what else to think?

Any other suggestions?
Can I start it without the accessory belt on to see if its that belt maybe making the noise?
Be very carefull with the tension, I lost my oil pump also as someone has already suggested. When the noise goes away so will your motor. How many miles do you have on the oil pump?

what is the proper way to test tension? Like I said it feels good to me, but I didnt measure deflection if that is what needs to be done

Its the orig oil pump I would presume, so 56k

I looked at the vfaq and if I test the gap between the tension arm with the .15" drill bit , will that be the best option to test the proper tension?

come to think of it, I think i held onto that 2 pronged tension tool with a decent amount of force when the tension bolt was tightened by my friend.
Could that be off and the belt slack still feel fine?

get something to slide through the hole in the hydraulic tensioner and if you can slide a pin through it easily then the tensions fine, if not then your tensioner pulley needs reset.

Measure the gap, stick a pin through, both are methods of checking the tension.

your bal. shaft belt is to tight you should have 10mm of deflection when correctly tensioned. the ecentric will spin when you torque the bolt so you have to be careful.

Did they ever identify the source of the sound? I have the same situation, after installing a Greddy timing belt. Really need to figure this out. :-(

Thanks,

J

On my DSM I found the b-belt loose at timing belt time. So, I decided to set the new b-belt a little tighter than what was recommended in the service manual. Afterwards, I had a whine for awhile. Both belts were OEM.

over tightening the bs belt is a good way to rob power and also kill the belt quick along with the balance shaft pulley. i don't recommend that.
