Rear differential noise @ speed
Rear differential noise @ speed
My Evo has about 1,800 miles since I purchased it new. I've noticed that at speeds around 80 mph that the rear differential produces a very audible noise. The noise is best described as a loud whirring sound. It goes away at lower speeds and is easily distiguished from the common deceleration noise reported by others. This noise is only heard when the drive train is under acceleration load. This load does not need to be WOT but rather any condition other than coasting or part throttle coasting and is not dependant on what gear the transmission is in. I have yet to go out and determine exactly what speed the noise starts to kick in and whether or not it goes away at higher speeds.
Does anyone else have this noise? I'm thinking about changing out the fluids in the next week or so to see if some Red Line 75W90 gear oil will help. Any suggestions?
PS- I already STFA and I came up empty handed.
