excessive amount of smoke from exhaust

Hello,
recently I noticed their is alot of smoke blown from my exhaust,
I changed oil recently and flush my radiator fluid.
From the excessive smoke I checked the oil dipstick and noticed
the oil was coffee black , the radiator tank was empty.

I also notice that the oil light appear and disappear seconds while driving.
checked oil level it was in the center of full and empty.

(comes on only sometimes)

It comes to my attention that I may have a blown head gasket or a worn
piston ring.

I quickly run to have a talk with a mitsubishi mechanic , he also add that I
may have a blown turbo.

Out of all the "3" possibilities , I would rather have a blown turbo than a
blown headgasket or worn piston ring.

Here is the car info.

2003 evolution 8 rs

61k miles

stock header , stock dp, stock exhaust.

injen CAI.

Any suggestion on how to narrow it down to the main culprit will be much
appreciated.

Thats coolant/water. If its a lot of smoke I doubt its the turbo. Most likely the head gasket.

It seems in evo forums everyone is too good for another to even respond to a fellow

Wow....If I had feelings that would have hurt them.

Check the "How-tos" section of the forum.

That was really unnecessary.

hey man try doing a compression test first to rule out the turbo. its alot easier then pulling the head.... its doubtful it is the turbo but thats my 2 cents

After that all being said, yes, does it smoke consistently after warmup or just at the start? Grey smoke is indicative water/coolant burning, oil will be blueish, and running rich (excess fuel) will be blackish.

You need to perform a compression test (get a kit at your local auto zone or parts store) and see what the readings are. They should be in the 140-150 range for an 8, a little lower for the 9 due to the MIVEC. The big thing is there shouldn't be a big spread between cylinders, i.e. one shouldn't be 140 and the other 100.

Leakdown test: http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles...ter/index.html

Compression test:
http://www.2carpros.com/dia/how_to_c...ompression.htm

General websites on how to perform them.

Drain the oil and see what it all looks like, your going to have to swap it out anyway. Also, there is 0 coolant, in the overflow and in the rad? Look in the rad and see if there are any oil bubbles.

Had the dealer check for the source , they were unable to find the problem.
They pull out turbo intercooler pipes to see if their are any oil , but none was fund.
They also check other source to see what causing the smoke , not fund either.
I did a compression test and it comes out ,

cylinder from left to right it reads 180 on the first two and 182 on the last two.

I am lost.

Forget the smoke and have the dealer put an oil pressure gauge on the engine to discover what the actual oil pressure is. Without oil pressure the engine is toast. If the gauge reads above 4psi at hot idle have them replace the oil sender.
