Question New clutch issue!

*posted in NW section, but only had a couple peoples thoughts/ideas/insight*

I recently installed a new clutch on my 06 evo MR. the install itself was a big pain in the *** but got everything in.

ive been driving on it for a week and a half with no issues (378 miles) and ive babied it the entire time. Drove it this morning to work with no issues as well. I decided to go out to lunch today so i put the car in reverse...gas it a little and notice a whirring sound(clutch engaging). I clutch in to disengage the clutch and i put in in 1st to drive forward. Saame noise that was fairly audible from the interior.

Stop the car, pop the hood and there is a slight smell of clutch (kind sour) almost like a blend of an electrical burn and burnt clutch.

a fellow co-worker was outside wondering what the hell i was doing and gave the car a listen. put it in reverse no noise. put it back in first and no noise. IM puzzled and the smell has almost disappeared. so parked it and turned it off.

i decided i better bring the car into the dealer and have it looked at. tech walked out with me and he drove the car in. He was able to reproduce the noise 3 times..... and again the smell was very faint, but almost goes away. put it on a lift...took out the inspection plug and no grenaded clutch or fibers hanging off anything, looked brand new still. *although you can only see so much*

a few techs decide to run it through the gears(on lift) to reproduce the sound and smell. Nothing. 2 techs take it around the block to try... they said car drove fine and no noise.

thats where im at currently....definately still has a faint smell when u stick ur head in there. i have no idea what would cause a noise like that rubbing/whirring noise from backing out at 1300 rpms or so.... especially when ive gone almost 400 miles with absolutely no problems.

just looking for insight or ideas, or maybe this has happened to someone else???

**UPDATE: drove this morning to work, no noise, no smell**

its an exedy stage 1 with resurfaced OEM flywheel.

Did you have a reputable shop resurface the flywheel?
