~~Problems shifting on 1st and R Gear~~

Hi guys, Im having problems shifting in 1st and R gear after having my tranny replaced and a new Exedy Organic Clutch installed.

When I put the gear into 1st or reverse, it feels like its not letting me in. I have to always put the the gear into 2nd in order for me to go into 1st and R smoothly. Also, once Im in 1st gear and the clutch is still pressed down, I can always go in and out of 1st and R smoothly, but as soon as I release the clutch and try to put it back into 1st or R, it feels like it doesnt want to go back in.

I've already adjusted the clutch engagment but it hasnt helped one bit. Can someone please tell me what to do?? I tried lubing the linkage cables, but that hasnt helped either.

I have had a similiar issue after putting in an Exedy twin disc. After the car has been sitting a few days, I have to put the car into 3rd or something before being able to put it into 1st or reverse. But after it goes into 1st or reverse, there isn't any issues until the car sits for awhile again. We probably just didn't put everything back together properly and something is sitting on a mount or the linkage. No clue so look forward to a solution

I had that problem after getting a rebuilt trans and a new exedy twin disk. I was told by my installer everything was normal. Since then its led to the demise of my new trans. I had to rebuild my clutch and trans again. Few months later the problem is back. Worst problem I've ever had on my car.

GO BACK TO YOUR INSTALLER. I'm willing to bet your clutch is dragging. put in on jackstands in the air and put the clutch in and put it in first gear and see if the wheels spin.

Another things to try..... Put in in first, hold the clutch in and pull it out of first then right back in. If it goes in easy the second time, clutch is dragging.

Yes it goes in easy the second time when the clutch is pressed down. This is really getting me mad.

Update*

Last night I took my car to another mech and he ask me if I bled the clutch or not, I told him I didnt, and he did it and re-adjusted my clutch pedal. He also had 3 other mechs to test my car and they told me there might be something wrong with the installation of the clutch.

So this morning I went back to the mech who installed my clutch and told him that there might be something wrong with the clutch installation and could he try to pull it apart again. After I said that, he flipped out and started cussing like no other and said are you questioning my work as a mechanic by finding another one tell you bs stories..Sooo, as he started to cuss at me, I asked him if he was so good, why did it take him like 3 weeks to pull apart my tranny and install my clutch and why didnt he bleed my clutch* or adjust my clutch pedal*?His response was why do you have to bleed or adjust the clutch pedal, where does it say in the book? Later on he told me this is what you get for getting a racing clutch( Exedy stage 1 organic) and not an OEM one. He also said how could he mess up the installation of a clutch when its a simple job. He also didnt resurface my flywheel cuz he said it was still new.

End of story, so my question is, do you HAVE to bleed clutch and adjust pedal? If so, where does it say? Either way, tomorrow Im gonna have my clutch reinstalled by another mech, my orginal mech said hes not gonna pay me anything cuz I have no proof he installed it wrong or didnt follow the standard procedures.

What happened there was a lot more dramatic, but I cut it short. He was being a super dick and I was so shocked cuz he was normally friendly .

My friend went through 19 cars, yes, 19 and all of them had at least the first gear and reverse problem you're describing. Of course, it only occurred when he just started the cars. Maybe it's a normal problem you can't avoid as I also have this too. It might just be that the oil hasn't warmed up yet because right when the engine's warmed up, it just shifts better. Hell, my tC with only 1000 miles on it did this too (brand new from the lot). It's just a wear and tear thing. Play around with the gears before putting it in first.

I had a similar problem after I got a ACT HD clutch installed. It is definitely worse the colder it is outside. After I drive around for 10 min or so it is much much better. I never noticed this with the stock clutch, so I thought the shop may have done something wrong, but it seems that many people have this issue.
