Stock ECU readiness / Go codes?
Stock ECU readiness / Go codes?
So we recently cleared a CEL and I need to get emissions. Does anyone know how long the car needs to be driven before I can get emissions? Is this documented anywhere or do people generally just guess and say 50-100 miles?
Thanks

Well we had a few actually. The first was the ABS cause I had a blow out. Then the O2 had come on because of the test pipe that was on. Then a random TPS came up. But at this time there aren't any codes and we are putting a high flow ams cat on today.
Its an 03 Evo 8. Are you telling me I could clear the code while at the emissions shop and it will pass? I have heard mixed things on this so I was just wondering if its documented anywhere?

yeah they plug in and I believe they sniff the pipes as well here in Albuquerque. But are you sure there is no readiness state? i know a Jetta I had needed to be driven 100 miles or so before it would allow emissions to be read after the CEL was cleared.

There is definitely a minimum amount of miles you have to clock in order for the ECU to be "ready". I ways always told it was 200mi. If you go right after you reset the code the DMV OBDII scanner will not validate your car.
Same with the Evo. It needs to be driven before the readiness monitors turn on.
There are 8 emmisions monitors visible with a scan tool, 7 out of the 8 have to be completed to pass emmisions, unless the vehicle is a 2000 -96 then it can be passed with only 6 out of 8 complete.
Its not as simple as : no light?....... here's your sticker.
It is that way in Pittsburgh. I have a test pipe, and just used to clear the code before I took it in, like in the parking lot. Worked for 2 years. Then I just had the ROM remapped to remove the O2 code.
