Another,... BLOWN motor!

Well, i decided id join the club. Was cruising home with a buddy the other night and on a "closed road", decided to practice launching my car, because i was going to go to the track 2 days later.

Came to a stop, 2 step around 6k. Launches around 20ish psi. I slowly let off the clutch until i feel the car starting to roll then pop it. All 4 BF Goods break loose for a couple seconds and once they grab, maybe a second after,.. BBBOOOOOMMMMMM.

after yanking the head off and looking at the combustion chamber, spark plugs, and piston,... im kinda lost.

power mods are :
BR intake
BR uicp
AGP licp
AMS fmic
Forge dv
BR ported tb
BR tbe
MAP o2 w/ open dump
Labonte meth kit 100% meth
26ish psi, was spiking around 30ish on launch
ACT 6 puck w/ 2600 flywheel
BF Good KDW 2's
VEGA tuned
STOCK head
STOCK block
STOCK cams
STOCK tranny
57,000 miles

And let me add there was NO knock on launch, i wasnt looking at the meth gauge at the time so im still clueless to if the pump/computer failed, but there is NO detonation marks on the combustion chamber or pistons,. and the plugs look fine, other then the one thats smashed!!!

So, what im still lost on is, why did the motor blow. Yes i know crap happens but i didnt thinks a 57k motor with 400whp/wtrq, would blow like that.

ill post more pics with demand. im currently piecing together a 4g64 set up.

and ive heard on evos, calendar 3 is the one that always fails,... and guess which one failed on mine. yup.

No meth failsafe = bad

Vega tuned? Maybe if it was professionally tuned it would have had some sort of compensation or better setup.

Did you pop the FPR hose?

idk....26psi is low for meth...I run 27 w/ strait 93 Octane. IMO the tune had do be really screwed to blow up at 26 psi wether the meth was working or not.

Exactly, that is by no means an aggressive boost level. Either it was tuned to the edge or mechanical failure, or a combination of both.

I mean think about it, you launched in 1st and you said it blew right after.

In first gear your not seeing past 23-25psi tops but it could have been lean.

the tune isnt aggressive at all. im i was spraying a good bit of meth.

im leaning on taking it out, or just using it for water injection. and i dont think it was the tune at all. the plugs look perfectly fine. even if it went crazy lean for a split second the plug would show.

My **** just blew last week. I was driving out of a parking lot and got on it the tires spun a lil and when they grabbed and my boost spiked at 34psi it must have been to much and BOOM! I just hit 40k miles and everyone says 450wtq is the safe range for the stock block and I was at 445.

Im the one that tuned this car and trust me it hit more than 23 psi in fist gear. On the 2 step it would hold 20psi. The day it blew up he re did some of the meth kit and added a fail safe that day. He broke the nipple on the labonte meth box and he did something to it idk how he got the line to stay but from what he said the meth started to act weird when he did the changes that day. Like just randomly spraying meth or something like that. I know it wasnt the tune. the car had no knock and u can clearly see on the plugs and pistons. I rarely go in the forums and post so most dont know me. Im the so called Vega tuned. I have tuned alot of cars in here and other none evo cars. Some of the bigger known guys in the evo world might try to question my work bec they dont know me or seen my work but theres plenty of people in this forum that can vouch for my work. I tuned joes 520whp plus 100k miles 4g63 fp red and meth that he ran that set up for a year with no problems. Its sad to hear about Wills car bec that thing moved with barely any mods.

even though i dont think it was the problem.

that motor has been RAGGED out like a ****, and did its job. pulled cars on 410wheel TA's and 400wheel Z06's

just picked up a 4G64 today. will have it in when i get back from this deployment.

cheers

I can vouch for vega's tunes also..He tuned my car the first time i had it tuned..It ran great..He takes alot of time, and pays alot of attention to detail..Im not familiar with the car that blew up..But, id also have to say meth was the culprit in this..Hope you get your car fixed soon..justin

So, you installed a meth kit w/o a failsafe, then it was acting up, then you decided to beat on it (and not log/watch it?). Sorry dude but this is a perfect example of why people that wanna run meth should run AQUAMIST and make SURE the failsafe is working properly! You get what you pay for.

Sorry you blew your motor man.
