Cons to running too large of an injector?

Well I have been thinking lately. I have been running 1450 FIC BlueMax on my car because I planned on doing a BBK-B. But I have been happy with the power level and now thinking to myself are there any cons to running a larger injector at a lower IDC?

Would there be any benefit in going with a smaller injector if I'm staying with a BBK Full. Better MPG? Smoother? Let me know your opinions.

Hey bro, I would have imagined that Bryan would have told you when you had your car tuned that there is nothing wrong with running a larger injector as it's all in how you tune it.

idle will be smoother, thats about all I can add. I would not change injectors if you are happy with the way the car is, put the money towards something else.

stock ecu can't control the really big injectors well because the pulse width gets so narrow. I have 1000cc'ers on my stock ecu ix and sometimes it has some trouble starting because of this.

Yah I was thinking there might be a small chance I might get better gas mileage or something with a smaller injector. Figured I'd just ask.

Interesting.

This seems to contradict what I've been told:

After taking another look at my build I think 1000cc injectors are too large for 91 octane. What size do you think would work for my set-up? I used a few calculators online to try and figure the best flow rate and the closest I could get was about 780cc. Does that sound right?

Even though the injectors are a little large for the fuel demands of 91 on your proposed setup they will only use the fuel the tuner allows them to so having the additional head room for later down the road really has no downsides to the end user in either cost or drivability.

Mine are a little too big lol. It's nice when people are driving to close to you and they get a nice fireball at their bumper.

There really shouldn't be a downside to running larger injectors if they are tuned properly and your AFRs are in check. If you are staying out of boost or around stock boost levels, your car shouldn't be anymore thirsty than it was from the factory. ...if anything it should be a little MORE efficient.

The only con to large injectors IF TUNED RIGHT will be a crappy idle sometimes. The new style injectors like the ID 2000s and the FIC 2150s you can pin the idle down really easily. They are a little pricey though. If you are happy with what you have I would just leave it. I have thought I was done modding twice now, and kept going. I started at PTE 680's then upped it to the 1000's then had to go 1200's then now with the new motor I needed more for E-85 so I said screw it, and got the ID2000's. Hopefully this will be the last injector I will ever need...

My advice, leave the large ones on there, you never know what the future holds...

I run the new FIC1100 and the car drives, starts, and performs overall better than a stock injector....that whole 1000's is to big for the stock ecu couldn't be more wrong.

I even had some ID2000's in my car doing testing for a friend for a few weeks and the drove perfect (other than a rich idle on pump gas) and I just have a mildly modded evo.....its all in how they are tuned and setup.

Also the style injectors makes a difference as well.......a high impedance injector like the ID or new FIC's (aka Bosch) will outperform the old technology low impedance injectors with driving and idle quality. IMO and experience with injectors (i have used and tuned quite a few) there are 2 injectors worth buying the FIC 1100 or the FIC 2150/ID2000 - choosing which depends on your mod goals and HP level (to reiterate this is IMO).

looks like the crack pulse width tables were not tuned for your injectors.

^^^ agreed, I run fic bluemax 1550s on the stock ecu just fine.

I am seeing slightly worse mileage with the 1550s over the 1250s but the 1250s were at 90% duty cycle adn I did not have any room to grow on them.
