Evo 8.5 tuning. What boost controller & ecu tune for driveability?

Just want to get peoples opinions here on what to go for..

Heres my situation. Bought a 2005 evo with a mivec swap including 9 engine, harness, ecu, turbo, intercooler. To be honest i'm not 100% sure if all those parts truly are from a 9, that is for another thread though.

Anyway I noticed the car has no wastegate actuator solenoid so its throwing a code and it doesnt make any power on top end. It falls on its face around 5500 rpm and even backfires somewhat when hitting high rpms under WOT.

It appears someone had a MBC on this car before and after the mivec swap, the OEM equipment was never hooked back up. In fact the solenoid is completely missing, broken off at the harness plug.

I had a WRX with an accessPORT and thought that worked pretty well, what do you guys think is a really good combination to make some decent power in the stage 2 realm (300ish whp?) but to be a well mannered setup for daily driving? Affordable options first please

Thanks!

Buy the boost controller selenoid it has to be pluged in order to turn the check engine light off , even if you are using a MBC , just plug it in for the engine cel to go off , what kind of turbo are you using since is an evo 9 , you have the evos 8. 16 with 10.5 hot side or the 20g .? for starters?

Check the numbers in the front facing of the turbo where you put your filter , it should say , 16g.10t or 20g

http://www.google.com.sv/imgres?imgu...26tbs%3Disch:1

follow the link above to verify. with a 16. 10.5 and meth you should be around 370 some , 20g is another story should be aroun 420s. depending ond the mods and bolt ons etc.

Thanks for the link.. made me realize I do not have a evo 8.5, didnt realize that meant MR.. this is an evo 8 gsr with a full evo 9 mivec swap..

Just by looking at that, it looks like the 20g to me. But I'll verify that soon.

And I totally agree about getting the solenoid to cure the DTC. I'll need to get my hands on one but for the time being I'm trying to get an idea what other hardware I should be keeping my eyes open for.

Thanks for your help btw.

There is no need of getting an aftermarket ecu for your goals I seen cars putting 700hp on a stock ecu no problems , sure it has it limitants , but just get yours reflashed there are many tunner out there that will get the job donde JMS, mellon tuning , ttp. the mivec engine is a bit more powerfull than the normal gsr one cuz of the mivec. it will noticiable increase your horse power etc.

I would get a 3 port boost solenoid. Holds boost better up top and spools sooner. No regrets at all.

ECUFlash would be your best bet and you can map switch via ICS or toggle switch, your choice

Grimmspeed 3 port BCS and a opensource tune. FYI evo 9 and 8 Intercoolers are identical.

can't beat a mbc which is a ball and spring for spool, so your info is no good on that part

Stick with the MBC, plug in the oem solenoid to clear the code, you don't need to attach hose, just the electrical.

skip the AP, check out our tuning options...great information about what equipment you need and how the process works. http://www.mellontuning.com/index.ph...dex&cPath=1_28

the mbc is very simple and that's why it responds the fastest, it's a very well known thing but I know d buschur has talked about my post many times over.
