Leaking HKS Air Filter? Or Normal? Please Advise
Hi Guys,
About 4 months ago I had my shop swap my HKS "suction" filter element because the original yellow one was getting dirty. The FP Black had just come out and I figured it would be a good thing to swap the filter with a new turbo. Well, I just swapped the HKS intake pipe for the proper size Buschur intake and became very alarmed. I noticed that the metal HKS intake pipe had dirt in it (very fine grain and I figured it was from the oil that was temporarily getting sucked in, before I switched to an oil catch can system). I then decided to take the HKS filter element off and saw a LOT of large size dirt granules stuck to the plastic (because the plastic is covered with filter oil) inside the air filter housing that somehow got through the filter element. Is this normal and the HKS "suction" filter elements really suck this much or what? I am now really concerned that my motor has been sucking in large dirt particles for months or can the force of a turbo like an FP Black suck larger dirt particles through these types of filters. I am switching to a traditional K&N cone filter. I know some people run without air filters at all but what should I be concerned about? What tests would confirm if there was any damage from this?

Could just be the type of filter you are using.. HKS carrys several different filters [Wet/Dry] and maybe that one is just not the right one for you needs. Theres filters on their site that specific if you drive threw alot of dirt area that need the thicker filter.
The hell! it shouldnt look like that with a good filter unless ur driving under water. ive never had grits of anything in my intake or my MAF and im running an injen filter thats been on there for 45,000 miles
this is correct.. there are several different degree of filters from hks.. like stated.. the lesser ones flow more air but also alor more dirt thru.. and vise versa.. i think you will be ok.. as long as nothings piled up.. that doesnt look to bad..

I had the purple one on my car. Might as well have been running no air filter like the Honda crowd.
