Pls Help - Evo 5 Piston 2 & 4 Compression Drop
Hi Guys,
just when to the mech shop today to check on my engine compression and my mech show me that my piston 2 & 4 compression drops about 50% when he pump in about 700KPA thru a compression check gauge...
How should i resolve this matter? Do i need to do top overhaul? Will a top overhaul resolve this problem???
Thanks

One thing you want to do during that test is look and listen for the escaping air. If the air is escaping through the PCV system, that suggests the rings are in trouble. If the air is escaping audibly either through the intake or exhaust manifolds, that suggests burnt valves. This is important because one is remedied by rebuilding the head only, the other requires a complete engine removal and rebuild.
Also, I expect that your mechanic conducted the test while each piston was at TDC respectively when it was pressurized.

most likely damaged pistons from poor tuning.
2 is most likey to be damaged followed by number 4 due to airflow of manifold.
if you pull head and find scored cylinder walls dont be temted to fix with ring job. any mechanic that attempts that is uneducated. an overbore is needed with new pistons
