My two cents, even though it won't pertain to about 85% of you. Personally, I run racing dominator 15w50 in my engine, even though it's stock engine stock turbo with bolt on's and e85. The issue for me comes from the fact that I change my own oil, granted I don't have any data yet (we will this coming season) however, when I pour a 30 weight oil in it, it pours out like water, figure 3-400 miles of track abuse. When i switched up to 50 weight, my temps went down...slightly...and the oil pours out more like oil. About every race engineer i've talked to in my lifetime has always told us to go up a level from what the manu recomm's simply because you WILL break down the thickness of the oil regardless of how awesome it is....and this DOM oil is some freaky awesome sh*t. It's been the only oil thus far that didn't pour out black like death. That isn't because it's not cleaning, it's because it IS clean. We scoped her a few months back and the you could eat off of the pistons....22k miles of track abuse and still kicking ****

So if your doing that kind of use, ya AMSOIL DOM is the way to go. But for the 500whp+ or - daily use i'd follow apagan's post above with the other oils.

Also, can you post of that graphic breakdown you had awhile back, showing the diff oils/phos/zinc blah content, should be at least linked in here.

No Friction mods for AMO 10W40, wohever 10W40 AMO is a very robust oil has a great deal of detergents and ZDDP.
PPM for Zinc= 1378
PPM Phos= 1265

I thought we had pretty much agreed earlier that friction modifiers were a good thing and not to use wet clutch or motorcycle oils because they don't have 'em. Otherwise, I think AMO is one I would use.

The other thing the Amsoil guy could probably dig up is the zinc and phos numbers for the european 5w-40 Amsoil, and does that one have friction modifiers?

ZDDP levels for Euro 5W40

PPM Zinc= 887
PPM Phos= 788

i would not use it, no reason to, use 10W40 and call it a day

Very odd question about on the 5w-40 Euro. What gives it that distinct smell of heavy detergents even though the numbers tell a different tale. Just curious as the first time I smelled it I was caught off guard.

LETS JUST GET STRAIGHT TO THE FACTS. This thread is not about built motors, it is about the stock frame FP Red and FP Black and what would be the the best type and weight of oil for these two turbos to use. Just let us know what it is apagan. We know it must have high counts of zinc and phos.

Mobil 1 0w-40 synthetic isn't on the list, but it is better than the 10w-30 you've been using.

Either is a better proposition. Looking over the latest M1 product guide however, it looks like the 0w-40 may actually edge out the HM 10w-40 in this case.

What i reccomend all day long to stock bottom end folks with FP turbos is either, 10W30 Racing Dominator or 10W30 ATM, or AMO 10W40.

Thats what I'm thinking - although the 10w30 ATM isn't listed as a supported oil by FP, only the 10w30 Dom and 10w40 AMO. I keep going back and forth as wether to run 10w30 Dom or 10w40 AMO...

10W40 is an oil balanced between a race oil and street, reason when say this is because look at the ZDDP: PPM for Zinc= 1378 PPM Phos= 1265, the zinc PPM in this oil may be higher than oils like valvoline even mobil. But the good thing here is that you still have detergents that will keep everything clean in there and free of corrosion.
one thing to remember is that detergent are important the have many fuctions and one of them is keep the internals free of oxidation.
