FP Black on Stock 8 motor?

hey guys, before i start this thread i just want to say that i DID search lol, im just looking for more input. I have a stock motor evo 8 with 50k on it with bolt ons. ACT clutch, 3" turbo back exhaust, walbro 255, forge diverter valve, ebay intercooler, 3" 02 housing, Hallman boost controller etc..i found a good deal for an FP black and ive been thinking about putting it on and getting it tuned for just 93 pump has on a somewhat conservative tune as the car is my daily driver for right now. ive already have a big turbo srt4 and i love it but these stock appearing turbos are sick!, i just want some insight from some people who know more about this turbo than i do or people that have it to chime in!

would 480whp-500whp be possible once tuned without cams? if not what is the highest i will be able to go in terms of power without cams?. also what is the lag like on this thing, i mean i know most people do a pull after 4k rpm anyways or atleast i do.

I was doing alot of reading about torque and alot of people say that its the high torque that destroys the stock rods/ rod bolts, so i planned on getting arp rods bold and to try to stop tuning once torque got around 380 or so just so i dont run into any issues too soon.

lets hear some input!

Im in the same boat, thinkin bout pulling the trigger on a black w/ stock motor. Atleast ur ahead of me, w/ the clutch! I know any turbo I get, Im gonna need that next...

Yes its the TQ that kills. From my gathering the green can bring on too much TQ too quickly for the stock bottom end, so might as well get the red... well the black only spools ~ 300 rpm slower, so might as well get the black, right??? This is just one outlook, Ive got many, and am going back and forth, and cant make up my damn mind...

As far as doing pulls after 4k, from what Ive seen, most start their pulls between2500 - 3200rpm (on the dyno pulls Ive seen) to show how quickly it spools, but if your just mashing on it for best response, then yes higher up in the rpm band it will be more responsive. (as Im sure u know) I would think 3500 on a black would be a "nice spot" to start from... This is all speculatory at this point, of course, but from reading dyno graphs...
As far as #'s go from what Im seeing from others results is, the black is capable of close to 500, but this is on the ragged edge on a "pump" tune! Depends on how aggresive u tune it...
GL w/ your decision...

thanks for the input man!, we think ALIKE! haha thats why i was thinking about the black because the torque wouldnt hit as hard as say a green! i feel like it would be a much more rolled on smooth pull with out the huge torque hit thats gunna stress my stock rods! haha, im really leaning on this thing, i think i may pull the trigger like you said...lets read a couple more posts before i do so!

Rod bolts and head studs are a good idea BUT keep in mind that the FP Black don't really wake up unitl 25 lbs of boost. A conservative tune and a Black really don't mix to well.

What's the most power ill be able to get out of the black on my stock motor without cams on 93 pump gas? Also I know it may be a bit of a restriction but I was going to run the stock airbox with a drop in K&N filter just to remain with the Stock sleeper look, I know the tube itself will need to be modified to fit the inlet of the turbo but I've got it takin care of..

I think I remember reading somewhere, that u really need to consider an intake kit, as the stocker even w/ a k&n will be a restriction...

too much rpm causes the bolts to fail not torque. rpm will destroy the rods also.

If you are only going to run 93 octane I would not get the FP black. Its more fun once you boost over 30lbs.

I agree there are better options out there for stock block cars.
