Are there any quiet twin discs?
Are there any quiet twin discs?
Just as the title states, I was wondering if there are any twin disc kits out there that don't have the metal on metal sound. I'm in the process of a evo overhaul and was looking for something that will give me the non-embarrassing noise of my current ACT, but not the annoying lock out that comes with it. I know I can't have my cake and eat it too, but I want to see some input. The new build will be a stroker with a FP black...so the normal hp/tq from that combo will be seen...will be on E85, so expect the 600+ mark. Are there any singles out there that don't give the lock-out?
I don't mind a harsh engagement with a bit of chatter...just the noise.
Thanks in advance,
Matthew

Don't quote me but something to look into... I think I remember reading the Cusco twin is the same as the Exedy except it has springs to keep the disks level and from chattering? The HKS twin is suposed to be quiet too but I'm not sure if that is Exedy with a different cover design or Daikan.
I think the only difference between the Exedy twin SD and HD is clamp/ pedal pressure, clutch out- the noise should be the same.

I talked with Competition Clutch a little over a month ago, and they are in the process of testing a new version of their twin disc clutch that they hope will be much more quiet. Looks like this could be a viable solution, but it's still going to have some noise. English Racing is doing the testing apparently, so maybe you could direct them some questions...
Thanks for the offers
and suggestions guys. I'm waiting to see a clearer vid of that new quartermaster...especially the 'street' version.
EDIT: Wow.. just looked at that HKS clutch online...holy crap is that thing nice.
