Cold car vibrations? fixes itself after warm up.

During my commutes home i hit the highway almost immediately. if the car has been sitting and cooled down completely I get a slight vibration for the first 2 miles or so on the highway. after a couple exits pass, things start to smooth out like nothing ever happened.

i assume what ever it may be is affected by heat. anyone heard of this or have any ideas?

Do you maybe have summer tires?

I have an Evo 8 and my car does this too, always has. I guess this must be caused by some bad code in the ECU. Anyway, I have cruise installed so for the first couple of miles I put the cruise on and let it and the engine fight it out. So, at least for some Evos, this is normal.

You could try a fresh set of spark plugs. When they get a little tired it can show up first when the car is cold.

It's not at idle. It doesn't show up until you start on the highway. It's like a wheel out of balance feeling but once it stops I can't replicate it at any speed. I thought it may be a flat spot on the tires but i mean. That's crazy. Preassures are correct. There's no way any tire would flat spot after sitting only 8 hours.
I'm do for my 60k. What does a bad balancer pulley/shaft do when it goes bad ?

my 2010 evo x does the same exact thing..i let it warm slightly ,then go and start driving to my destination..no hard shifts due to being cold still, not normal operating temp yet...then a few turns and stoplights later it goes away....

It falls off.

Okay, it will squeal some, throw the belt and then fall off. This is if the rubber fails. If the bolts shear it just falls off.

Did anyone ever figure this out? I have the same problem, at first I thought it was the downpipe banging up against something, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

sounds like a flat spot in the tires from sitting but could also be motor warmup hesitation.

My 9 does this as well but it has to be under 40ish degrees out for it to happen and it only happens for about a mile at highway speeds then gets smooth. Feels like the car is slightly out of balance for the first mile or so. Does not happen when it's relatively warm out and does not happen when driving around town at speeds under 60 MPH. Running 18 inch RPF1's, don't remember it happening on my stock rims. After all these years I have stopped worrying about it.

Did anyone figure this out? I'm having the same issue since last week. I have 54k miles on '11 GSR. definitely nothing to do with any pulley/shaft.

Did anyone get to change the spark plugs? did this help?

(I was running all seasons and changed to summers 4 days ago. The vibration started last week. you could feel the vibration good enough to say that there is some issue and after swapping it with summers, the vibration is more.)

My car has always done this to some degree, Never anything violent, I've always just attributed it to the aftermarket wheels and tires. Can't remember if it ever did it with the OEM Enkies. I haven't put them on the car in years now

Cold tires can definitely cause this. I've had it happen on many different cars now. If the car sits for a few days with the front wheels turned, its more likely to happen. Summer tires that get harder when its cold may be more likely to do this.

If the vibration doesn't 100% go away after 10 minutes on the highway, I suggest getting the wheels rebalanced, and then if that doesn't fix it, start looking elsewhere although I don't know what to look at.
