I chose TRE for all my drivetrain for the following reasons.

Jon@TRE has a education in metallurgy and mechanical engineering, he has a lot of experience with Mitsubishi drivetrains, his services are very detail orientied, and founded in sound engineering and reason.

I feel Jon@TRE is passionate about building drivetrain components. He leaves no stone un-turned and IMO offers the BEST service available regardless of price...yet still offers affordable competitive services. His services and new ideas have been copied by other vendors selling "rebuilt" gear boxes, transfer cases, and rear ends... but most of them don't have the knowledge or experience to know what they're doing wrong, let alone doing right.

He offers new innovative solutions for your transfer case, transmission, and your rear differential.... I recommend TRE to all my friends.

I like TRE although I haven't had any service done, I love how the website explains everything he does and more. I've learned a lot and I'll be getting my rear diff converted to a MAXLOCK in the future.

I had an awesome experience with Shep. They got my transmission done quickly and its perfect. I don't have any experience with TRE, but Shep did great work for me.

I couldn't get a hold of TRE through phone or emails. I just ordered through Shep for Tcase and Tranny.

I think a lot of the colorado evo and dsm guys have had good experience with Jacks from what I've read.

I guess he works another job or is a student full time and does transmissions during swing shift hours, but I've heard nothing but good things about his transmissions and service.

From what I can tell, Shep/TRE/Jacks are all reputable at rebuilding evo transmissions. I'd pick whomever is closest to you or provides you with the best customer service experience.

Check out TurboTrix too, they did a 1G DSM tranny for me and it shifted incredibly smooth. It had their LSD insert and billet aluminum shift forks.

As you can see there are plenty of good choices to choose from! I also like the fact that TRE and Jack's have some good technical write-ups on their websites.

TRE all the way!!!!Do not go to shep. I have personal experience with shep and right when I got my tranny back from its "re-build" it started grinding 3-5k miles later -_- It also took them 2 months!!!!

From my personal experience:

-Shep's is fairly slow, but very nice dudes and know what they are doing. They did what they could with my transmission but I couldn't handle the turn around time.

-Jack's was super helpful over the phone, great guys. they certainly know evo's. But I hate their hours. I could only get a hold of them at 3pm est because they open at 1pm mtn time. Order went through very quickly, plus their upgrade tapered bearing for the input shaft is a great thing.

-I've only been able to talk to tre once, and again super nice dudes. Never purchased anything from them but they certainly are very knowledgeable.
