Time for a new clutch disk!!!

Hello all! I toasted my clutch (ACT HD pressure plate with street disk) last fall and finally am ready to do the new one. Now only the disk is toasted and I really dont have the $$$ for a nice twin plate SOOOOO I am looking at a simple upgrade to the 6 puck ACT disk to replace the street disk. The main question is, Sprung or Unsprung. A local DSM guy here said that he has heard of ACT puck clutches loosing the springs when ran hard. Anyone else hear of this issue? What about the "reduced spline life" associated with the unsprung clutch? Thanks for the input!

How many miles did you get from the existing setup?

Just wondering.

I wouldn't get the 6 puck for the Evo. Save up some more for a twin disk. You won't be sorry.

Well it was on the car when I purchased it at 43,000... It now has 76,xxx miles and still launches ok, I just am now making around 400/400 and it cant handle it anymore if I happen to stick good. It has seen probably over 150 hard launches at ~320 whp and 25 where I am now. Very good clutch if I must say lol.

Well seeing as the new disk is <$140 and a new twin is around $1400 I really dont see that happening lol. I have better things to spend my money on right now, Just need the new clutch to enjoy my car during the summer.

I would suggest the spring center, but make sure the surfaces of the flywheel and pressure plate are flat. If the street disc got cooked, then chances are the surfaces are warped and will need resurfacing.

They will both be resurfaced just to be on the safe side. Have you heard anything about the springs failing ACTman? You can just pm me about the issue if you wish Thanks!

It is the same spring center as the one used on your street disc as long as it has the yellow springs. We have had very few failures over the years, and this has been a very popular application. Make sure the pressure plate is done right by having it taken apart, tested and rebalanced. Although we don't advertise this service, we can perform this for you at a reasonable cost. Of course shipping costs, time, etc sucks.

Ok what am i looking at cost wise to have you refurbish the pressure plate i currently have? Downtime is not really an issue for me as it is not a daily driver.
