Why would you even want to do that? It devalues the look of the car and sounds like poop. Just get a TBE. sound better and looks better. If you like that sound just get a full 3" ETS exhaust and swap the cat with a test pipe. Don't degrade your evo with straight pipe.

The best set up for what your trying to do is a Buschur Turbo Back with Test pipe and with there super slim SD tail section. If you go strait pipe all the way its going to be snappy/raspy. That tiny little muffler will smooth out the note and will also give you a really nice looking tip as well.

Your car isnt really going to be super loud when youre just crusing around because the turbo muffles the noise and also smooths out the presure waves.

To help with drone you should buy some of that cheep matress foam and cut and stack it to fill the spare wheel well under the trunk board. This will help alot with cabin noise.

I've been straight 3" slip fit no cat no muffler no res for 6 months . I dig the sound and a healthy set of cams makes for a good tone

I know this post is kind of old but I have straight pipes. Still the stock downpipe bc I'm too poor to buy a 3" yet but I got the pipe made, painted, tipped, and installed for 200. Beats the crap out of any exhaust system online. It isn't that loud until you get into 10+ pounds of boost. Then it screams. I haven't had it tuned or anything but O2 sensor after the cat was put back in. Had it months now and no check eng light. The smell isn't terrible either. Sometimes you get a good whiff if the wind is right but it isn't unbearable. Car doesn't smell like it inside either. Worst part a lot of soot on bumper. Silver car and black soot shows up. Just make sure you pipe it out enough to get rid of the worst of it. Mine extends an inch past the bumper to help. Other than that I love it. Pure sound. In STL there are emissions but no check eng light no worries.

I get black soot on my we bumper too. Yeah its alot cheaper and just as good to go buy a 6 foot stick of 3 inch and do a full straight pipe rather than buying a testpipe. FYI its just as cheap to buy a cat for emissions test and install it as it is to have a test pipe and high flow cat on stand by.
