Here we go again, quiet cat-back clarification needed.
No issues now, I talked on the phone for a few minutes on the highway trip back from picking up the new Evo, and all was well.
I think occasionally about getting the extra ponies from the RM01a or the Medalion Touring, but yeah, NO. I'm finally happy, not about to screw with that.
Might as well do it. If you are like me, if you are tempted now, you will do it sooner or later. Get it over with, lol.

It lists stock at 92db idle, 92db at 3,000rpm.
Tanabe Medallion is at 96db / 101db! WTF. This does not seem quiet? The Greddy Ti Race listed here is at 102.
I have the Greddy TI Race coupled with a Buschur 35R and Revolver Cams. Is there anyway to make this combo quiet without sacrificing to much horsepower? Then again, at 102 db's it shouldn't be that hard finding something a little quieter
I can only wish that my car was as quiet as your old one was in the video you posted, and my car is White hahaha! Congrats on the new IX

I feel you with the Revolver cams. I have them too. These things FLOW very well. When I had my 5Zigen and catless, I would shake the pictures inside my house when I started the car.
Now the car has a COBB cat back & DP with a perrin HFC. I header wrapped the DP and the mid pip back to the resonator.
Now I can start the car is it is peacefull.
I have to admit, I miss the "smoke rings" the tanabe would shoot on cold moist mornings.
Bad thing is, I noticed a bit of power loss because of the HFC and the COBB CBE is HEAVY.

Thanks! I am so much happier now.
Well, I heard a GT35R-equipped IX with a Buschur SD Bullet CBE that was quieter than my car was. I would call or email Buschur and get the quietest CBE they have, and then add the 6" Magnaflow to the test pipe.
It should be quieter (but IMO, definitely NOT quiet), and there should be no loss of HP. My old car was recently dynoed at 402whp, as we found out it was a 3076R and not a 35R.
Non-Mivec and those cams, I'm going to throw my vote in that it will still be entirely too loud. But good luck to you!!!

Even though Ferno sold his car, this has been a great thread for quiet exhausts.
I currently have a Cobb catback with a vibrant resonator installed where the cat is. Far from quiet but my setup is far from stock. I'll try to get a DB reading and I do have a real DB meter. 20" from exhaust correct?
When I first installed the Cobb, it wasn't bad but over the year, it has gotten louder. Has a lot of bass to it. I'm also curious if the Cobb's resonator isn't a true 3" and runs small like you see on other setups.
I thought about trying this exhaust on ebay since the muffler is larger than most and its only $125 shipped.

It does neck down at the starting flange so that would have to be cut off for a 3" flange. If anything the stainless pipe is worth the money. I did see this up close and the internal baffle looks much different than most.
I was also going to try a 6" Magnaflow in the cat location and replace the Vibrant. Maybe add a resonator.
I may also try some softer engine mounts and wrap the exhaust. I was tempted to try the dual Magnaflow but after seeing a few results from others, I'm not so sure.
The Varex muffler is another option but expensive.
Big thanks to BluEVOIX, Aby, and all the others that had some good input here.

Crappy pics and videos lol
You can't see but it's straight through with some weird baffle tube thing and perforated rear section. hahah sorry I can't really explain or take good pictures. It is loud outside the car but the sound is sent straight back its cool. I definitely need another muffler so I can stop waking people up in the morning

^ That muffler gets super loud later on. I'd suggest changing it out. It has no sound-deadening material. I have the same one too. recently changed the muffler out for a Magnaflow. I have vids of the exhaust before and after:
Before with ebay muffler and stock tip welded on:

After with Magnaflow:

Damn! That is loud. Well maybe scratch that idea. The Varex muffler is getting more and more tempting despite the $500 price tag.
^ Yeah it is loud that's why I changed it out to the Magnaflow. It's a hell lot better sounding and quieter now. lol If you want a quieter setup, might as well go with a dual muffler setup ;P
Personally I would steer clear of the dual-straight-through (i.e. Magnaflow) setup if you have more than bolt-on mods. Cams, turbo, etc. Honestly, the ONLY way I would try it is with the BR CBE and a 6", but I'd count on that for reporting data only, and be prepared to replace it with something quieter.
I had a dream about an exhaust leak last night, and I sold that car a week ago. No joke, the saga gave me nightmares.
I've already ordered my bluetooth head-unit to replace my peeling stocker, and I'm not about to make my car any louder for the time being. Enjoying the sounds of silence!
