low oil light

i have a low oil light coming on all of a sudden today.
if i hit the throttle it disappears however.
my defi oil pressure gauge shows 20 psi or so at idle, just as it always did.

is it my oem oil pressure sensor? or should i prepare myself for something much much worse?

If the reading is where it usually is, which 20psi at idle is normal then the sensor has to be defective. When they go bad they usually start acting up.

actually, i totally forgot to mention, my car had a history of oil pressure gauge problems.. first, i had vei gauges, oil pressure among them.. went showing 2 psi at idle... then i've replaced sender... half a year, same deal... swapped vei in favor of defi.... guess what, low oil pressure again, we have cleaned the contacts with silicon spray, everything's working again... now this.

sorry for making this thread at all, i'm simply pissed off at that, folks..... why it is just not working for me..

Do you drive an 8 or a 9? The 9's are notorious for bad OEM sensors.

i've got a 9.

i've googled up pictures of both 8s and 9s senders, they're visually identical, except 8s has its output contact straight, and 9s is angled. the location on 9s might be a bit of a problem since the oil might be dirtier near the filter... ok, i'll replace it and report to this thread.

in a day oil light stayed turned on almost always, no matter if it's 15 psi or 100 psi on my defi gauge.

oem oil pressure sensor was on two weeks backorder so i tried cleaning a sender's contact with wd40, no effect. ordered a replacement sender Tama PS131 which has the same characteristics as an original mitsu one, had a 3 days delivery time on that. ordered an oem as well just in case tama is no good.

right after sender replacement to tama's everything is back to normal. thanks everyone and sorry for another useless thread.
