Car wont turn over all the time! PLEASE HELP!

I got my clutch installed about a month ago and everything worked perfect at first. but a couple days after the install i had a problem with the starter engaging. i thought it might be the battery to i just replaced it and I am still experiencing this problem. the battery has over 12.2Volts & there are no blown fuses. The car will turn over some times, but will not always start. I thinking it may be that the clutch pressure switch is not working all the time but it will turn over some times, and its acting like the clutch is just not being depressed all the way, but it is. Has anyone ever experienced a problem wit this? PLEASE HELP IF YOU HAVE ANY IDEAS

Thanks Scott

12.2 is low. How old is the battery? Check if your connections at your starter are good. No loose grounds.

12.2v is low, for sure. That's barely enough to crank the car. If you think the clutch safety switch is bad, test it.

Sometimes when working on cars, the battery gets drained due to having the door open or sitting, etc. If the battery was a little weak to begin with this tends to show up. See if it will take a charge, if not get a new one. Most auto parts stores can check it. I think it should be around 14 Volts. I just replaced mine with a miata battery. Working great so far!

Thanks for all the advise guys! but I just replaced the battery with a brand new Braille 21Lb battery and when I first start the car in the morning it reads 14.3V but it seams like as the car gets wormer the battery voltage decreases, and it goes from 14.3 down to 13.6v-13.8v. I tested the clutch safety switch and it is not that because with it fully depressed it will still not engauge the starter. so i guess ill check the altinator/battery lines. I did relocate my battery to the trunk about a year ago but I have not had any issues tell now with the car not turning over..... Please help!!

+1 . If you relocated the battery I would check all that first.

Yep, check your grounds. This is starting to sound exactly like my old S13. btw- How are you checking battery voltage? If it gets hot and the voltage drops, that means resistance is too high. What size cables did you use when relocating the battery? Check the link below for info on grounds.

You are giving us info for different things that you believe to be the same.

Battery voltage with the car off should be around 12.8V
Battery voltage with the car running should be around 13.8v

12.2V to crank the car is probably to low.

I was checking the grounds that i installed and 2 of the 3 were a little loose so im sure that played a part. I am checking the voltage with my Apexi Turbo Timer that also has a voltage read out. I used 4gauge wire to run from the alternator to the battery, and its worked excellent for 5 years so im thinking it was the grounding issue.

When the car is first started in the morning the battery voltage reads between 14v to 14.3v but as the car warms up it settles around 13.8v. If the engine is not running the battery read around 12.5v

Ok, that sounds right. What does your battery to chassis ground look like? Is it 4 gauge as well? All grounds should go to BARE metal. No paint/undercoating/rust/boogers should be between the ground wire and the metal.

I usually hit the area where my ground will be attached with the sanding barrel on a Dremel, bolt the ground down with a star washer between the bolt/screw head and eyelet, and then hit the area with some spray paint to prevent rust. If I don't want to spray paint the area, I'll just grind away the paint in an area smaller then the eyelet. 6 years and not a bad ground yet
