Do you have a link for this mod? Could it be that gasket is not thick enough? Maybe piston to valve clearance is too close???

head is off and so far nothing suspicious other than buildups on the valvestems and piston tops. i took picks but cant get them loaded up from my iphone. tomorrow i will be tearing the head down to inspect the valves and try to clean the piston tops.

i do think that the culprit might be the 8 head gasket though as the 9 looks twice as thick.

i will keep this updated as i inspect everything.

yesterday i completed the the head mods. oil passage porting, egr tap/delete. i also cleaned up the valves, combustion chambers, piston tops, intake manifold. i was on the fence about doing the egr mod but once i saw how gummed up my intake manifold, intak evalves and piston tops were it was a must.

i had buildups on some of the actual valve seats in the head that looked like some of the valves were not fully closing. i also checked pistons for play. they all could be rocked when brought to tdc but there was no up and down play. idk how much movement there should be but i took a video of it to show.

today im gonna be doing the timing/balance belt change and try toget the head back on.

valves and combustion chamber cleaned of debris. again mostly just the buildups were taken away, nothing crazy as i left the valves installed.

ok ive only gotten about a half hour of driving on the clock but the sound remains. i believe it is piston slap and nothing else. if you look at the pic of the head you can see i still have alot of that oil galley remaining. i still modded it though as to make a better/softer angle to the port. in all im glad i took everything apart to see what my 28k old built motor looked like.

when i get back from my trip this weekend i will upload the video of the pistons rocking and someone who knows better can let me know what they think.
