Eroshi is right, unless you plan to remap, the open air intakes wreak havoc on the Karmann MAF. I am using stock air box with K&N drop in, pulls strong with all my mods.

See my earlier posts on this thread, spent alot of time diagnosing this issue.

BTW, check out the latest Car and Driver. Looks like Vishnu is using a stock air box on their car, which claimed 475hp.

Good luck SMP3000

Wow- I did read that article but didn't see they had a stock airbox!!! I just installed the stock back on and removed that little brass goober in the boost check sylenoid. Unfortunately while putting hte stock airbox back in the tip of that sylenoid broke off. (Doh!) and I'm in the process of using superglue to get it back on there. In the morning before work I'll get everything back on and test her out again.

I must say though- that with the filter taped off 75% of the way that the car felt the fastest it had.

I'm exchanging the typhoon for the perrin short ram. I'm hoping it won't give me as many problems. I do plan on a turbo trix mail in tune within the next 3 months.

Look on page 59. Small picture in the middle of the page. Looks like the stock air box to me.

Yeah, I left my air filter taped off with a garbage bag for a few days to test it. Showed a few friends and they almost fell on the ground laughing. I shrugged and asked them if they wanted to race. They stopped laughing doh!

And FWIW, I might point out that 475hp on Vishnu's dyno is well over 500hp on a Dynojet. Contrary to popular belief, removing the factory air box (which is not restrictive) in favor of some 'bling' intake is oftentimes a backward step.

hmmm very interesting. I just took the car out for a test drive after the re-installation of the stock along with a FORGE DV. The car felt FAAST. The stock intake > typhoon and it seems the Forge DV holds the boost a lot better than the stock plastic job. So I'm pleased. It now peaks to 21 psi then lowers to about 17-18. I plan on throwing my MBC in this week to try and keep her at 19 all the way through.

I'm also interested to see how the perrin intake feels. Has anyone heard much about this intake? It passes the "looks" test- and generally if you can't find anything bad said about it- people that have it are generally pleased. Very few take the effort to praise a product- while everyone is willing to complain when a product doesn't live up to their expectations.
