EVO9 MR having major issues

hey guys this is my first post on here

I bought an 06 EVO MR on friday. Test drive car felt a little weird like it kind of lagged at higher rpms and I just thought it was turbo lag.

On my way home, full throttle car started bogging and felt like it wasnt getting any fuel.

Saturday car runs like **** cant full throttle car lags. I read on the forums about possibile issues.

Sunday night, i change the spark plugs, car ran like a champ!!

Then today its even worse than before i changed the spark plugs. car sputters when turned on and when driving. i dont even want to move it out of the driveway anymore.

any suggestions?

Did you disconnect the battery when you changed the plugs?

Check for boost/vacuum too.

Ok, my idea was that you HAD disconnected the battery and your tune or something is messed up so when it was running rich and learning the fuel trims, it ran better for a little bit before going back to normal.

Since you didn't reset the ECU, that idea is out.

Disconnecting the batt wouldn't effect the tune.

Check for boost leaks. However, it's odd that it ran well after changing the plugs.
When it's bogging, whats your boost gauge reading?

Personally, I'd pick up a stock airbox from the "for sale" section, find the original ROM for the ECU in the "ECU Flash" section and compare it to what you have now. If they're different, save your current image and re-flash it back to stock.

Purely from a troubleshooting standpoint. Sometimes you have to rescale the MAF with aftermarket intakes. Besides, with just an aftermarket exhaust, an intake isn't really going to do anything.

Bad spark plugs were the case.

You have to check for boost leaks.

I also wonder if the previous owner removed the modifications and returned it to stock. This could affect the tune.

Maybe post some photos of your engine bay and we can identify anything abnormal.

I'd say take it to one of the good evo shops up north. The ones I know of are all south in LA. Let them check it out. I had the same sputtering problem and it turned out to be the plugs too. I changed my fuel system and added pte 1200cc injectors and a walbro and running strong now. I would check your fuel, plugs, or boost/exhaust leak.. GL.
