Annoying Tick... was it my injectors?

So I have been running E85 for around 10 months straight now and for the past 2 months I have had a nasty tick I couldn't get rid of. It would only occur between 2000-4000 RPM. I swapped the lifters last week in hopes it would remedy this. To my dismay it did nothing...

A local member had some nasty E85 gunk on his injectors so I figured I would run a 1/4 tank of 93oct through the car to clean the injectors out, and low and behold the tick was gone within 5 miles!

Has anyone else experienced this annoying tick sound from the injectors while running E85 for extended periods?

Is there any kind of treatment I can use with E85 to lubricate the injectors to prevent this in the future?

oddly enough your the second person ive seen post about this in the past 24 hours. i think it was 4RETECH that just had a running problem after months of e85, ran 93 and it cleaned up.

i wonder if it was the e85 kicking up the deposits in the tank vs. crud in the e85?

My stock injectors ticked fairly loud, but it was just how they were, they never saw e85 obviously.

i know it sounds ghetto, but im sure a tiny amount of 2 stroke premix oil in the gas tank would help. you could also try an upper cylinder lubricant like marvel mystery oil or lucas makes one. either way, a very small amount.

Just curious, wouldn't the oil decrease the octane of your fuel? Does anybody know how much?

It would effectivly lower octane and lean out the mixture, dont know how much though. Thats why i said a very small amount.

Seafoam works well for that problem as well as an alternitive. Just add a qauarter bottle to the gas and drive it around.

Did you not take them out and look at them? I know pump gas will clean them out a little but not all the way.
