Exclamation grinding noise when selecting 1st gear

as above... car is evo 4. grinds when selecting first gear from neutral. grinds even more if the car is rolling. no problem if selecting from 2nd into 1st

what's the problem, bad 1st gear synchro ? if yes, what's the part number and where can I buy it ?

thanks in advance

Grinding like that (from N while stopped or rolling slowly) can be a sign of a bad synchro and is worth investigating. But before doing that, have you changed the transmission oil recently, or is it due for that? (old oil can cause grinding and general 'noisy' transmission)

New 1st or 2nd gear synchro from LancerShop:

1st thing I would check is to see if your clutch is dragging. Mostly because it is quite common and is usually easy and free to remedy.

Sitting the car on flat ground, put it into 1st and holding clutch pedal to the floor gradually bring the rpm up to rev limit. If you reach the rev limit and the car does not move and you don't get that burning clutch smell, then your clutch is not dragging. If it does move/smell then your clutch is dragging, then search "jacks transmissions clutch adjust" on YouTube for how to adjust your clutch pedal properly.

yep, fluid is fairly fresh...

hm, I see that part isn't expensive, thanks for the link.

evo 4-8 uses same gearbox internals ? so I can buy that first/second gear ring of evo 8 and fit to evo4 ?

Ah! ... sorry, actually you might want to check on the synchro for Evo 4; I'm not sure about the gearbox in those, it's most likely different.

thanks for suggestions guys and one more question

would it be enough to change synchro only or changing "Synch sleeve" is also required with synchro ring ?
