Would this cause my clutch to slip??
Would this cause my clutch to slip??
Pulled my tranny the other night and found this crack in the clutch pressure plate, The clutch was starting to slip worse and worse intermittently but more in the higher gears like 3rd every once in awhile and 4th and 5th were worse, didn't know if it was maybe from this or just a combination of the flywheel being glazed, the disk being worn a bit and the crack?
Can't decide whether or not I'm gonna go back with an act and like a 6 puck or spend the money on an exedy twin disk, I want it to be easy to drive daily, but also wanna be able to launch once in awhile.....
I would stay away from Exedy Twin...just my .02. I know EVERYBODY on here will tell you its the best thing since sliced bread but it doesn't withstand a lot of launching and the discs overheat and warp easily. If you already had an ACT 6 puck than I would just get another one. That crack in the pressure plate definitely wasn't helping so that may have been the source of your problem. Unbalanced pressure on the disc causing premature wear. People don't always realize how much stress there is in the drivetrain when we drive our cars hard or launch them.

Should be around the 450 to 500 range with an FP RED on e85 depending on how aggressive we tune it (probably pushin it to go more aggressive on a stock block), but I figure if I blow it up all the more reason to build it........ I was at 365 with the stock turbo on 93 pump. I just want a clutch that holds, I think this clutch started slipping because of the cracked plate, but nothing more annoying then trying to get a car tuned and all the sudden ur clutch starts to slip and the fun is over.....I just sent the tranny to get built at shep it had a grind between 4th and 5th. So I have some time to get a clutch before the tranny gets back.

Well good news, by me posting pics of the cracked diaphragm on here I got a pm from an ACT Rep and he told me to call and send it in to them and they would see what they could do. Well, I just got a call from them today and they said they would replace the pressure plate and give me an upgrade to an xtreme. All I have to pay for is them relining my disc and a new throwout bearing like 135 bucks. So looks like they stand behind their products!
How bad is the pedal pressure with the xtreme plate, anyone use one? I am not excited about having even more pedal pressure, but he said with the heavy duty plate and street disc its only rated to hold like 406 ft/lbs wheel torque and I imagine I will be near that on e85. I really don't want a 6 puck so I figured just go with the heavier pressure plate.

It's all up to personal preference, but I've driven some cars with the Xtreme setup and it's not terrible. I wouldn't want it for stop n go traffic, but otherwise it's streetable. I haven't driven an Evo with the ACT Xtreme though.
Well I'm about to find out how it feels cause that's what their sending me lol.
